Golden Town and Gown Book Club (TGBC) will discuss When Rivers Run Dry\, by Fred Pearce in a Zoom meeting on April. Mr. Pearce is an entertaining\, British writer\, with an intern ational perspective.
The topic of wate r supply is thought by some to rival climate change in importance to our c ountry. The discussion leader will be Mines Professor of Hydrology Kamini Singha\, who was the 2019 Mines Faculty Senate Distinguished Lecturer on t he topic of water supply.
The meeting will begin with City Council or Jim Dale giving a brief encomium to Bill McKee\, one of Colorado’s wat er experts\, who was to lead the discussion of this book. Bill passed awa y suddenly in February.

The United States Marine Corps Memorial Foundation will hold the annual ceremony for Veterans Day on Saturday\, November 6 at 2 p.m.
The ceremony\, honoring veterans and the 100 year anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier\, will feature Guest Speaker Cmdr. Jason Pratt \, USN (Retired) along with a music program. The 13 US troops fallen on Au gust 26th will also be honored\, and a parade float of the Tomb of the Unk nown Soldier will be on site.

The Colorado School of Mines Board of Trustees has given for mal approval to begin work with a developer\, Capstone Development Partner s\, on a public-private partnership that will reimagine Mines Park student housing and raise the total bed count from 538 to more than 1\,000. The Kiwanis Club and the Golden Chamber of Commerc e will host their annual Easter Egg hunt this year on April 16 at 10 a.m. in Parfet Park.

Archaeology isn’t just about digs in exotic locations far aw ay from here. Golden has a rich history that we’re still “uncovering”! Sto p by the Golden History Museum (923 10th St.) on Saturday\, April 30 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and visit with archaeologist Amy Gi llaspie while she photographs artifacts collected during the Astor House C ommunity Archaeology Project excavation of summer 2021.
Learn more about the Astor House dig site\, ask about a day in the life of an archae ologist\, or just take a look at the artifacts. Amy specializes in social changes at Front Range historic sites and has also excavated at Plains sit es in Colorado and North Dakota\, at Classic Maya sites in Belize\, and fo r the US Department of Defense on a World War II recovery mission in Franc e. This a free drop-in event with NO registration required.
This family-friendly event\, sponsored by the Golden Community Commons group\, takes place on the last Tuesday of t he month\, May through September.

Golden P arks and Recreation is using DeLong Park as a pilot project for the City’s first organic park location. This means that we will be using only natura l\, organic products for all plants and grasses. No synthetic chemicals wi ll be used in our maintenance practices.
A group of weed-busting v olunteers meets weekly at DeLong Park on Thursday mornings from 8 to 10 a. m. to weed out invasive species–interested community members can join the group on Thursday mornings and be on the lookout for more information abou t formally signing up to help keep DeLong Park pesticide-free as a volunte er.

Join your neighbors for a day of celebration a nd community service on National Public Land Day! The City of Golden\, in partnership with Jefferson County Open Space and the City of Wheat Ridge\, is sponsoring a Clear Creek Clean-up.
Participants will be workin g along a 22 mile stretch of the Peaks to Plains Trail along Clear Creek. Past efforts have resulted in the collection of 12\,220 pounds of trash. M ismanaged trash that escapes into waterways can create a wide range of pro blems. Aquatic trash affects water quality\, endangers plants and animals\ , and pollutes the outdoor spaces that we depend on for tourism and recrea tion.
The canyon will be closed for this very special event.
Volunteers must Sign up online to participate in this special day of community serv ice.
Afterwards\, be sure to join a post-project celebrat ion at the Gateway Trailhead in Golden. Voluntee rs will be treated to live music\, free food from a handful of food trucks and beer for individuals 21 years of age and older.

Join us at the Golden History Museum on April 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. to learn about the adventures and life of Lavinia Morg an Anderson as told by storyteller\, Linda Batlin. Lavinia is a fictional character\, but her story is drawn from the snippets of diaries kept by ma ny real pioneer women who immigrated west in the 1800s and created a new l ife in Colorado. is a composite character of a pioneer woman living on a r anch in Colorado in the late 1880s. Come out to Golden’s newest city park\, DeLong Park\, for an Earth Day Celebration (rescheduled from April due to weather) held by vol unteer DeLong Weedbusters from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 3.
The Golden Lions Club is hosting the 51st annual 4th of July community celebration in Lions Park. Activities k ick off at 11 a.m. with music by three local bands\, food\, drink\, childr en’s activities (including a hula hoop contest at 2:30 p.m.) and a raffle.
The day culminates in a fireworks display at approx. 9:30 p.m.\, weather and fire conditions permitting. Keep an eye on the City’s social media channels (Facebook and Twitter) for up-t o-the-minute updates if a cancellation is necessary.
The celebration is a day for families\, friends\, and neighbors to gather in L ions Park to picnic or purchase food and drink. All raffle and festival pr oceed go to support the work that the Lions Club does in the community throughou t the year.
Parking near the festival is extremely limited . The 8th\, 9th and 10th Street neighborhood will be closed to th rough traffic and festival parking. Ride your bike or walk to the event if you are local.
Remember that al l fireworks are ILLEGAL in the city limits of Golden\, so leave the firewo rks to the professionals. You can view the show from anywhere along the cr eek path\, near Lions Park\, and the Golden History Park.

Bring the little ones for the annual Easter Egg Hunt on Satu rday\, March 30 in Parfet Park.
