Golden Town and Gown Book Club (TGBC) will discuss When Rivers Run Dry\, by Fred Pearce in a Zoom meeting on April. Mr. Pearce is an entertaining\, British writer\, with an intern ational perspective.
The topic of wate r supply is thought by some to rival climate change in importance to our c ountry. The discussion leader will be Mines Professor of Hydrology Kamini Singha\, who was the 2019 Mines Faculty Senate Distinguished Lecturer on t he topic of water supply.
The meeting will begin with City Council or Jim Dale giving a brief encomium to Bill McKee\, one of Colorado’s wat er experts\, who was to lead the discussion of this book. Bill passed awa y suddenly in February.

A Golden icon for three decades\, Golden Fine Arts Festiva l is a prestigious juried art show located in the heart of historic downto wn Golden\, Colorado happening August 21-22.
With its prime locati on just 20 minutes west of Metro Denver and free admission to the public\, this premier event traditionally draws over 30\,000 visitors (pre-COVID) over 2 days to enjoy art\, live entertainment\, beer and wine gardens\, an d food vendors.

The United States Marine Corps Memorial Foundation will hold the annual ceremony for Veterans Day on Saturday\, November 6 at 2 p.m.
The ceremony\, honoring veterans and the 100 year anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier\, will feature Guest Speaker Cmdr. Jason Pratt \, USN (Retired) along with a music program. The 13 US troops fallen on Au gust 26th will also be honored\, and a parade float of the Tomb of the Unk nown Soldier will be on site.

The Colorado School of Mines Board of Trustees has given for mal approval to begin work with a developer\, Capstone Development Partner s\, on a public-private partnership that will reimagine Mines Park student housing and raise the total bed count from 538 to more than 1\,000. The Golden Lions Club is hosting the 51st annual 4th of July community celebration in Lions Park. Activities k ick off at 11 a.m. with music by three local bands\, food\, drink\, childr en’s activities (including a hula hoop contest at 2:30 p.m.) and a raffle.
The day culminates in a fireworks display at approx. 9:30 p.m.\, weather and fire conditions permitting. Keep an eye on the City’s social media channels (Facebook and Twitter) for up-t o-the-minute updates if a cancellation is necessary.
The celebration is a day for families\, friends\, and neighbors to gather in L ions Park to picnic or purchase food and drink. All raffle and festival pr oceed go to support the work that the Lions Club does in the community throughou t the year.
Parking near the festival is extremely limited . The 8th\, 9th and 10th Street neighborhood will be closed to th rough traffic and festival parking. Ride your bike or walk to the event if you are local.
Remember that al l fireworks are ILLEGAL in the city limits of Golden\, so leave the firewo rks to the professionals. You can view the show from anywhere along the cr eek path\, near Lions Park\, and the Golden History Park.

The Golden Years Reception on October 13 gathered important feedback from older adults in our community\, many of whom want to be enga ged in the planning of Golden Community Center and The Front Porch activit ies. We are excited to begin our collaboration to plan these fun opportuni ties!
City staff will offer several focus group sessions on November 3\, 2023\, based on feedback received at the reception . These focus groups will be held in a smaller space\, more conducive to c onversation and listening so everyone can hear and be heard.
Advan ced sign-up for these 45-minute sessions is required. To accommodate the r oom size and allow for better conversation\, each group will be limited to 20 people. If a session reaches capacity\, we will add additional session s on the same topic.
