  • 2011 4th of July FireworksGolden, Colo. – June 27, 2012 – The City of Golden is cancelling its 4th of July fireworks show, in light of recent events and weather conditions. Although Golden has received a little bit of moisture in the past few days, it’s not enough to extinguish the concerns of extreme dry conditions.

Additionally, due to multiple wildfires burning in the state, fire resources are stretched thin throughout the region. The Golden Fire Department is among many metro area departments assisting on the wildfires. As a result, firefighters are working overtime to not only protect their communities, but the state as well.

“We thought it irresponsible to hold a fireworks show that would require so many firefighter resources,” said Golden City Manager Mike Bestor. “We want our firefighters and those across the region to focus on what’s important right now. The wildfires, protecting residents and making sure the firefighters get enough rest so that they can continue doing the heroic work they do.”

The City of Golden will still host a Fourth of July Festival on July 4th beginning at noon in the beautiful and spacious Lions Park. This festival has been taking place for more than 40 years and draws thousands of people to Golden. There’s live music, food, free rides for kids, local beer and great raffle prizes. We encourage people to spend the day celebrating freedom in our historic town.

The fireworks show will be rescheduled for later in the year. The date is yet to be determined. We will post the latest information here on the website, as soon as it is available.
