The Shelton School & Community Garden is officially breaking ground on April 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and everyone is invited! The event will include volunteers from DUG (Denver Urban Gardens), parent/student volunteers from Shelton and the community, Mad Greens volunteers, Golden Mayor Marjorie Sloan, Golden City Councilwoman Saoirse Charis-Graves and State Representative Jessie Danielson).

DUG will bring a crew of volunteers and a shift leader who will provide overall direction, while also providing all tools and materials. The tasks will be to loosen the soil with pick axes, cut cedar planks for edging using power tools supplied by DUG, lay the pathways with weed barrier and crusher fine gravel, and edge the at-grade plots with cedar. DUG will have a load of crusher delivered along with the cedar planks.

Volunteers should dress for the weather, and wear close-toed, sturdy shoes and clothing that can get dirty. If volunteers have garden gloves or their own tools that they’d like to bring, they are welcome to bring them. They should be sure to label them with their name so they don’t get mixed up with DUG’s tools.
