The Golden Fire Department personnel consists of a career administrative staff of nine. The administrative staff is responsible for all of the administrative duties of the fire department. This includes fire prevention, public education, training, and volunteer recruitment. All of the emergency response staff consists of 92 volunteer firefighters.

This year the Golden Fire Department Recruit Academy consisted of 13 firefighters, 12 from Golden Fire and one from Golden Gate Fire Protection District. All 13 recruits completed the five-month Academy successfully and are now certified Firefighter I and Hazardous Materials Operations level firefighters. The 2013 Golden Fire Department Academy, which will be combined with the Fairmount Fire Protection District Academy, will begin in February. Each year the Golden Fire Department trains on ice rescue techniques. Although the city does not have any large bodies of water, the possibility of someone falling through the ice of one of the small ponds still exists. Therefore our personnel hone their skills to be prepared for such an emergency.

On Friday, March 4 at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, teams of five made their way through a 15-gate giant slalom course wearing fire helmets and bunker coats and with each racer holding onto a 50-foot length of fire hose. The fifth annual event was a fundraiser benefiting The Children's Hospital Burn Camps Program.

In the early spring, as the snow starts to melt and Clear Creek water levels begin to rise, Golden Fire Department hosts a swift water training class. The class is instructed by Dive Rescue International, a company based in Fort Collins, Colorado, who provides the most current and professional water rescue training education to the public safety industry. This training is attended by water rescue crews from across the nation.

After a thorough interview process, qualified perspective volunteer firefighters begin a five-month academy. After the academy, the recruits are state certified Firefighter I, Hazardous Materials Operations level and will continue with a one-year probationary period. Each year the Golden Fire Department responds to nearly 1300 emergencies. These incidents include structural fires, wildland urban interface fires, vehicle fires, hazardous materials spills, medical assistance calls, and a vast array of technical rescue calls. The year 2011 will prove to be a record year for number of incidents for the Golden Fire Department.
