  • We invite you to make a difference in your community by volunteering with the City of Golden. We have many opportunities available throughout the City including firefighting, programs for our youth, special events for the police department, museum assistants, and many more. Volunteers are needed to support our mission to make Golden the best place in the world to live, work, and play. Opportunities to volunteer may be one-time events or ongoing based on the assignment and availability.

    How Can YOU Volunteer?

    To volunteer for the City of Golden, please review the list of volunteer opportunities currently available. Complete the on-line application and submit it to Human Resources. Opportunities may be limited and may not be available in your area of interest, but check back frequently.

    Current Volunteer Opportunities

    Volunteer Tour Guide — Golden History Museums

    CCHP VolunteerVolunteer Tour Guides provide visitors of all age groups and backgrounds with information and a guided tour at one or all of the Golden History Museums’ three sites. Help share Golden’s rich history as you guide and discuss Colorado and Golden’s environment. Dress in historical costume. Encourage visitors to participate in our interactive exhibits and view live demonstrations of life in the past. Learn something new, share your knowledge, give back to the community, gain some experience, and have a great time doing it!

    Volunteers must like people, be a minimum of 18 years of age, complete 2 hours of training, and be able to volunteer a minimum of 2 shifts per month from Memorial Day to Labor Day

    Volunteer History Interpreter — Golden History Museums

    Golden History Museums Volunteer History Interpreters provide visitors of all age groups and backgrounds with information and interpretative programs at one or all of our Golden History Museums’ three sites. Share Golden’s History with others! Dress in historical costume. Work in one of our interactive exhibits. Conduct demonstrations in animal care and gardening, poultry education and care, historical hearth and stove cooking, butter churning, sewing, laundry and cleaning, blacksmithing, carpentry, or pottery. Conduct a school lesson and share the stories of childhood in 19th and early 20th century Colorado. Play and leisure activities of the past like hoop and stick, croquet, graces, and parlor games.

    Learn something new, share your knowledge, give back to the community, gain some experience and have a great time! You must like people, be a minimum of 15 years of age, complete training and be able to volunteer a minimum of 2 shifts per month from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

    Volunteer Opportunities Often Available

    Volunteer Firefighter

    Volunteer FirefightersAre you a dedicated professional ready to enhance the quality of life for the Golden Community through fire and injury prevention, education, and protection of life and property?  If so, We Want You!

    Volunteer Firefighters may respond to fire calls and other emergency incidents to protect life and property; drive and operate pumping fire engines, aerial ladder trucks, rescue trucks, and similar fire, rescue, and related vehicles; participate in fire prevention, fire suppression, rescue, training, maintenance, and safety education activities. Volunteers must be at least 19 years of age.

    Hands on History Assistant

    Do you love history? As a Hands on History Assistant, you will assist instructors with the Hands on History program. This program is designed for youth ages 6-11, and consists of (8) week-long sessions during the summer months. This is a great opportunity to accumulate hours for National Honor Society and other community service based programs.  Assistants must be at least 15 years of age.

    Golden History Museum Interpreter

    Share Golden’s history with others!  Dress in historical costume.  Work in one of our interactive exhibits and/or conduct demonstrations.  Learn something new, share your knowledge, and have a great time.  Must be at least 15 years of age.

    Golden History Museum Tour Guide

    Help share our rich history as you guide and discuss Colorado and Golden’s environment. Dress in historical costume.  Encourage visitors to participate in our interactive exhibits and view live demonstrations of life in the past.  Must be at least 18 years of age.

    Golden History Museum Front Desk

    You will be the smiling face that greets and welcomes our visitors, share information on admissions, memberships, and upcoming exhibits.  Must be at least 18 years of age.

    Community Center Child Care Volunteer

    Do you like working with children? This opportunity provides a positive and fun environment to children ages 6 months to 8 years while parents are using the Golden Community Center. Lead some activities, interact with the children. Must be at least 13 years of age.

    Police Department – Special Events

    Do you like stuffing goodie bags or making banners, being a part of a community event? This volunteer opportunity can offer a variety of duties. National Night Out is successful each year only with the dedication and help of Police Department volunteers. Come and man a table and mingle with your community. Must be at least 12 years of age, if accompanied by a parent.

    Police Department – General

    What part of police enforcement excites you – radar and code enforcement?  Volunteer in our records and evidence department, or support services.  Must be at least 21 years of age.
