May 11, 2019 is the 27th annual Letter Carrier’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, when postal workers all over the country collect food from patrons on their routes and deliver those contributions to local community food banks.
To participate, simply put non-perishable food in a sack next to your mailbox in the morning and your donation will be collected and used to help fellow Golden residents in need.
Golden administrative offices will be closed on Monday, May 27 in recognition of Memorial Day.
Don’t forget to get your raffle tickets for the many great prizes donated by generous community partners and merchants to the Lions Club. All the proceeds go to fund the many community projects the Lions Club does for the community. Friendly and leashed dogs are welcome.
The fun starts at 11 a.m. and doesn’t end until the fireworks display begins, approximately 9:30 p.m., weather and fire conditions permitting.

Park Rules to keep in mind:

- If you are planning to bring your own grill, please be aware of park rules governing the use of grills in Lions Park: Use of a portable propane camp stove is permitted if the stove’s propane tank has a capacity of 2 pounds or less. Ordinance No: 2046.
- Smoking, vaping and the use of electronic smoking devices is not permitted in any Golden Park or recreation facility.
- Dogs must be kept on leashes and the person having the charge of the animal must immediately pick up the poop and dispose of it appropriately.
The City of Golden administrative offices and the Golden Community Center will be closed for Labor Day.
Experience the beauty of the holiday season as you walk through downtown Golden, candle in hand, singing holiday carols during this annual tradition. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand for photos before the walk, then gather at 6 p.m. at the Foothills Art Center, 809 15th St. on Friday, December 6. The walk begins at 6:30 p.m. down to the Visitors Center for a holiday show, the countdown to the lighting of the lights by Mayor Marjorie Sloan, and a short fireworks display from the roof of the Golden Hotel.
Enjoy the lights that will shine all along Washington Avenue and Clear Creek, along with various activities for everyone to enjoy.
Join the Golden Chamber of Commerce for pancakes with Santa! The event is from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Calvary Church, 1320 Arapahoe St. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate the season with your little ones. Breakfast includes pancakes, orange juice, and coffee. All kids will receive a goody bag as part of the experience.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there to listen to all of those wish lists! There will be Carol singing with Alli Coffey and holiday readings by Golden Children’s Librarian, Emily Vrotsos. Celebrity chefs from the Golden Volunteer Fire Department and Calvary Episcopal Church will cook up the breakfast.
Tickets must be purchased in advance at www.goldenchamber.org. Adults are $10, kids are $5, and children under three are free. No tickets will be sold at the door. A portion of the proceeds from Breakfast with Santa will go to the Golden Fire Foundation and Lunch and Life program for the Colorado School of mines free lunch program. Come do some Christmas Shopping at the Annual Golden High School Holiday Bazaar held by the PTA of Golden High. With one-of-a-kind gifts from over 90 different local artists, you can make a big dent on your holiday shopping list.
This is a fund raiser for the students at Golden High School, helping with scholarships, after prom party, grants, and more.
The Holiday Bazaar will be held at the Golden High School, 701 24th St, Golden on Saturday, December 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Includes free parking and admission.
On Saturdays in December, authentic and historic downtown Golden becomes a festive holiday center. Join in the holiday spirit and watch floats, clowns, festive holiday characters, and Santa Claus on the firetruck parade down Washington Avenue. After the parades, head to the downtown area shops and restaurants. Each parade is different, providing the perfect reason to bring the family back to Golden again and again!
The route is down Washington Avenue from 11th to 13th Streets through historic downtown, with lots of activities before and after. The parades are presented by the Golden Chamber of Commerce. Go to www.VisitGolden.com for more information.
The Golden Concert Choir will perform the Carol of the Bells, Sherpherds’ Farewell, 3 Carols by PDQ Bach, and Huron Carol among other holiday favorites at 4 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 7530 W. 38th Ave.
