Have you hiked our Colorado 14ers? Or, maybe thinking about hiking a 14er and want to be more prepared? The Alpine Rescue Team will give you insight on some of the ins & outs of how to successfully and safely hike our tallest peaks, whether you have hiked them all or not yet hiked any of our 14ers.
What should you bring? Do you know how to read the weather? What about if you get lost or hurt…what do you do then?
Alpine Rescue Team will help prepare you for your 14er adventure, as well as provide perspective from the rescuer’s point of view, and how best to be assisted in case you have a bad day in the mountains.

Now in its 36^th Year, Leadership Golden is accepting applications for the 2019-20 Program.  This tuition-free program provides local learning about Golden with 11 sessions that run from Sept. 7 to May 7, 2020.  Topics include Golden history, government, public works, finance, growth and development, education, arts and recreation, and the justice system.  Great program for newcomers and long-time residents interested in the fabric of Golden.  Visit leadershipgolden.org for all the details and complete an application form online.  The application deadline is July 31.

To meet with the Leadership Golden Board of Directors, Steering Committee, and Alumni, you are invited to attend the “Meet and Greet” reception from 5:50 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16 at the Old Capitol Grill, 12th & Washington.  Complimentary appetizers and a cash bar will be provided.

The City of Golden Public Works Department is conducting a rate study for our water, sewer and stormwater (drainage) services in 2019. We are looking at how customers are charged for water, sewer and stormwater services, and the amount we charge for service.

The last rate study was completed more than 20 years ago and much has changed since that time, including water use habits, average demand and peak day needs, available technology and switching to monthly billing to name a few. Given these changes, the study will help us evaluate pricing objectives such as revenue stability, conservation and affordability to ensure we can support our high-quality water, sewer and stormwater services well into the future.

The Utility Rate Citizen Committee was formed to look into these issues and present a recommendation to City Council later this summer. The group first met on February 19 and will meet on the third Tuesday of the month through July at 6 p.m. in the Public Works / Planning Building, 1445 10th Street.

Join Golden Planning staff for an Open House to discuss new utility (water, wastewater, and drainage) rate structures on Wednesday, August 14, from 6 to 8 p.m in the Golden Community Center.

Stop by the Golden Utilities open house in the Golden Community Center on Wednesday, August 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. to learn more about your water, wastewater and stormwater utilities and potential changes ahead for how we charge for these services.

The open house will include stations that provide information about the water, wastewater and stormwater systems, water resources, rate study, water quality, and conservation. This is your chance to provide feedback on how Golden charges for utility services.

Your input is part of the rate study currently underway, to look at how customers are charged for water, sewer, and stormwater drainage services. A committee made up of experts and local residents worked for the past six months to evaluate the current system and ensure any changes are fair, equitable and tied to the demands that different types of customers place on the system.

The open house format is intended to be flexible to so please stop in at your convenience during the event!

The Colorado Classic comes to Golden on Saturday, August 24 and the route they have chosen will be an exciting day of fast-paced action right downtown.

On paper, Stage 3 in Golden looks like a sprinter’s delight with seven swift laps of a nine-mile circuit that starts and finishes under the iconic Golden arch downtown. But don’t be fooled as the short steep climb up the historic Washington Avenue is enough for a mini-Queen of the Mountain on the last lap. Seven laps means the racers will come through downtown SEVEN times – that’s a lot of great opportunity for spectating. New Terrain Brewery will also have a front row seat to the action, as the route will take the race right in front of the brewery.

Join the Public Works Department for the kick-off session of the Annual Public Works Citizen’s Academy. This Academy is a free 20-hour program exploring the work that goes into keeping Golden’s streets clear, the water flowing, and the city beautiful! Participants can expect equipment demonstrations, presentations by Public Works staff, and tours of City facilities including a field trip to Guanella reservoir. Dress up your pup and join about 2,000 other animal lovers for a parade and fair in downtown Golden.

Hundreds of pups in costume will stroll down Washington Avenue and end in Parfet Park for a family-friendly fair.

The parade is free to watch, while parade entrants are $25 per pup. Proceeds of this annual event benefit the more than 12,000 animals that Foothills Animal Shelter cares for annually.
