Each day of the Gathering features different shows, classes and programming, primarily at the American Mountaineering Museum. Celebrating the Contributions & Achievements of Women in Golden and throughout Jefferson County! International Women’s Day got its start at the turn of the twentieth century in North America and across Europe as part of the labor movement. The day was first marked 109 years ago, and today hundreds of communities around the globe celebrate the many contributions and achievements of women everywhere, while noting improvements that are needed to improve life for women, children and men worldwide. This year, in keeping with the objective of the United Nations for gender parity in all careers, we are focusing on the future of women in STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. We are proud to be working with the Golden Library and DECTech at the Colorado School of Mines to recognize young women (grades 5 – 8) with the “Girls in STEM” awards at our luncheon event.

The City of Golden is honored to be part of the 2nd annual Colorado Classic on Saturday, August 18, and as a bike friendly community, we are proud to support international cycling. The iconic Lookout Mountain climb attracts riders of all skill levels, and once again, will be the stage for some of the best cyclists in the world to compete.
The road race, however, will require some road closures. Please see the information and map below.
Road Closure information
Saturday, August 18
- 6 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. – Lookout Mountain Road will be closed at the US 6 & 19th Street intersection beginning at 6 a.m. The road will be closed to everyone except residents going in and out of the neighborhood.
- 10:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. – There will be a brief hard closure of roads along the route, indicated on the map to the right. Access to downtown will be from the north during this time.
**Please note that closure times could change depending on what occurs within the race and is not in the control of the City of Golden.

Whether riding the Giddyup event or not, this event in Lions Park offers a day of fun in the sun. Enjoy bluegrass, beers, and bike-time on Sunday, September 16 with dozens of great bike brands displaying their wares. This family-friendly event includes a kids’ bike course from Avid4Adventure, shenanigans from REI, food trucks, beer and whiskey.
For the second year, the Giddyup has teamed up with New Terrain Brewery who are making tasty brew just for this event, with proceeds from the sales supporting the Golden Giddyup’s trail efforts.
On Sunday, September 23, 2018 Golden’s biggest annual race will take place for the 13th year running. Starting beneath the City’s famous ‘Welcome’ arch, right in the center of historic downtown Golden, and finishing in Parfet Park beside gushing Clear Creek, the Golden Gallop will lead its runners on 5k and 10k loops. Both runners and walkers are welcome!

The 5th annual Be A Tool 5k Run (On Small Business Saturday) is being held to help support the growth of the Neighborhood Rehab Project. In September of this year, over 1,000 volunteers came together in Golden, Arvada, Englewood and Idaho Springs to help work on projects for folks in need of warm, safe and dry conditions. Proceeds from this race will go directly toward future projects in 2018 and 2019.
