The Planning Commission, established in 1948, affords residents the opportunity to actively participate in the planning of the City and its welfare; to learn all facets of the regulations governing such functions; interact with a wide variety of citizens participating in the shaping of Golden’s future; and assume an active role in any regulation changes involving zoning and subdivision activity.

Planning Commission Study Sessions recur on the third Wednesday of each month (this meeting has been rescheduled to the second Wednesday due to Thanksgiving). Study Sessions are open to the public, but are for information only, and no public hearings or votes will take place during the meeting. To participate in a Planning Commission public hearing, those meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers (unless otherwise noted).

Rick Weiss, the founding director of SciLine, will offer a free talk on November 15, 5:30 p.m. in Brown Hall W210 at the Colorado School of Mines about “Evidence in an Era of Synthetic Credibility.”

The digital democratization of information is proving to be a mixed blessing. Individuals and populations once marginalized and voiceless now have instant access to influential communication channels and a chance to join the global marketplace of data and ideas. But this borderless information ecosystem has also turned out to be fertile terrain for con artists and provocateurs who are using increasingly available and sophisticated technology to obfuscate on an unprecedented scale and undermine institutions that have historically been central to social stability. The race is on to develop approaches that can accurately assess credibility in real time, and elevate evidence to its rightful place.

SciLine is a philanthropically supported, free service affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of Science that connects scientists and other experts to journalists covering science, health, and the environment.

The talk is free, but reserve your spot online. Refreshments will be served.

Come celebrate your community! The Flavors of Golden potluck combines inspirational remarks from five local organizations, an array of food offerings, time to sit down and have a relaxed meal and conversation with folks of varying perspectives and closing remarks by Mayor Sloan.

This year, voluntary donations will be collected at the door to help support the five presenting organizations who care for our community. All are encouraged to bring food. RSVP online and sign up for what you will bring to the potluck.

The event is hosted by Golden United, a non-partisan, resident-driven effort to engage Golden area community members across all walks of life to find common ground and act with respect and dignity in addressing key issues.

Please join the City of Golden’s Planning Commission and staff for a public workshop hosted by the City’s transportation consultant. This workshop will discuss mobility within the City of Golden and how it will relate to the new Transportation Master Plan. Your input is needed to help create the plan! The event will be held on Thursday, December 6, 6 – 8 p.m. at the Golden Community Center. Food will be provided.

The Golden Safety Academy was created to help educate and empower citizens with information and resources that enhance their personal safety and crime prevention. This free academy is held once a month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the second Monday of every month in the Golden Fire Department, except for the June class, which will be on Tuesday, June 12 in Council Chambers. You may attend one, several or all sessions.

On Wednesday, January 30, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., join Jeffco Open Space at the Golden Community Center for a brief presentation on the next segment of the Peaks to Plains Trail in the mouth of Clear Creek Canyon. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions of Jeffco Open Space staff.
