Several community organizations have come together to bring a celebration of the spirit and resilience of the Golden community to life. The event will provide a chance for the community to collectively reflect on the experiences of the past year and celebrate those who have supported us through a difficult time.
The event will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. on Kafadar Commons (Mines Quad) on Illinois St., and offers an opportunity to:
- Participate in a community art project to capture collective pandemic experiences
- Reflect on how the pandemic impacted us and commemorate those who supported us
- Musical performances, including local band Alibi
- Visit booths of Mines and community organizations
- Win prizes from Golden businesses
- Enjoy kids activities with Mines students
- Enjoy food and drink from local vendors (including from Bob’s Burgers, Basic Kneads Pizza, Golden Poultry and Meats, the Eddy Hotel, and others)
Take a ride on the new Mines-Golden Downtown automated shuttle.

Join Planning Staff on Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Golden Community Center for a community meeting to discuss the mapping of the new zoning code in the R1 and R2 zoned neighborhoods north of Highway 58. Those who own or rent a property in that area will receive a post card in the mail. Two more meetings are scheduled this month on the 20th and 23rd to discuss mapping of the new zoning code in other areas of Golden as well.
Each meeting will be hosted at the Golden Community Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The purpose of these meetings is to present the new Form Zone Overlay Districts that have been mapped to specific zone districts. Staff will be on hand to explain the methodology used to apply these maps, and gather feedback.
Staff will work with the community to refine the current map of the new form zone overlays.
Don’t miss the Golden Sidewalk Sale in beautiful downtown Golden. Roam Washington Avenue and stroll up and down the side streets looking for shops sporting balloons signaling a sale. Golden’s mostly locally-owned stores are going all out for this event with great prices on everything from outdoor gear and jewelry to clothing and artisan crafts. Because this year, you’ll also enjoy entertainment including a mobile bubble tower, face painting, and paint a pumpkin kit for kids (while supplies last), making the Golden Sidewalk Sale perfect for free family amusement. Stop by the back patio of Golden Visitor & Information Center (1010 Washington Ave.) for face painting and to pick up the children’s activity.

This year the Golden Gallop will offer a HYBRID event, with an in-person race on September 19, or an option to complete a race during a ‘virtual’ race window from Sept. 11 to Sept. 19. Choose from multiple race options, including a Kid’s Fun Run, a 5K and a 10K. Whether in-person or virtual, kids, families, and friends from all over are encouraged to participate. The event raises funds for the Golden Schools Foundation which provides educational funding for seven Golden articulation schools.

The Leadership Golden Alumni Association (LGAA) is hosting a Candidate Forum in connection with this year’s Golden election of City Councilors. The forum will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 911 10th St.The United States Marine Corps Memorial Foundation will hold the annual ceremony for Veterans Day on 
Saturday, November 6 at 2 p.m.
The ceremony, honoring veterans and the 100 year anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, will feature Guest Speaker Cmdr. Jason Pratt, USN (Retired) along with a music program. The 13 US troops fallen on August 26th will also be honored, and a parade float of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier will be on site.
This year the USMC Memorial has been expanded to collect donations for the Toys for Tots program.
Bring your donations for the Toys for Tots donation drop-off from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
