May 11, 2019 is the 27th annual Letter Carrier’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, when postal workers all over the country collect food from patrons on their routes and deliver those contributions to local community food banks.

To participate, simply put non-perishable food in a sack next to your mailbox in the morning and your donation will be collected and used to help fellow Golden residents in need.

The Golden Planning Division will host a Community Open House event regarding the Transportation Master Plan. A project vision, project goals and project objective were developed and now the City needs citizen input.

The Golden Urban Renewal Authority (GURA) and the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will host a joint open house to share information on their respective and mutual goals, projects and programs and to gather community input on capital investments.

Stop by the Golden Utilities open house in the Golden Community Center on Wednesday, August 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. to learn more about your water, wastewater and stormwater utilities and potential changes ahead for how we charge for these services.

The open house will include stations that provide information about the water, wastewater and stormwater systems, water resources, rate study, water quality, and conservation. This is your chance to provide feedback on how Golden charges for utility services.

Your input is part of the rate study currently underway, to look at how customers are charged for water, sewer, and stormwater drainage services. A committee made up of experts and local residents worked for the past six months to evaluate the current system and ensure any changes are fair, equitable and tied to the demands that different types of customers place on the system.

The open house format is intended to be flexible to so please stop in at your convenience during the event!

Join the Public Works Department for the kick-off session of the Annual Public Works Citizen’s Academy. This Academy is a free 20-hour program exploring the work that goes into keeping Golden’s streets clear, the water flowing, and the city beautiful! Participants can expect equipment demonstrations, presentations by Public Works staff, and tours of City facilities including a field trip to Guanella reservoir. Experience the beauty of the holiday season as you walk through downtown Golden, candle in hand, singing holiday carols during this annual tradition. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand for photos before the walk, then gather at 6 p.m. at the Foothills Art Center, 809 15th St. on Friday, December 6. The walk begins at 6:30 p.m. down to the Visitors Center for a holiday show, the countdown to the lighting of the lights by Mayor Marjorie Sloan, and a short fireworks display from the roof of the Golden Hotel.

Enjoy the lights that will shine all along Washington Avenue and Clear Creek, along with various activities for everyone to enjoy.
