The first four Fridays of August feature family-friendly movies and music for free in Parfet Park. This week we bring you Mary Poppins Returns along with the music of The Sweet Lilies.
Each week, the bands begin performing at 7 p.m. and the featured movie will start rolling at dusk, generally around 8:30 p.m. The movies are shown on a giant inflatable screen under the stars.
Bring blankets or low-slung chairs, and make yourself comfortable! If you need to sit up high in a regular height chair, however, please be courteous of those sitting on the ground, and keep to the edges of the crowd. This year we’ve dedicated the front area to blankets only, so please look for the signs. Come early and bring a picnic dinner, or enjoy food and drinks from local vendors. A number of vendors will be on site to offer tasty selections such as pizza, ice cream and sodas. Then, of course, save room, because what’s a movie without hot, buttery popcorn?
Dogs are welcome, just keep them on a leash. And please leave your adult beverages at home – this is an alcohol- and tobacco-free event. Regular park rules apply.

The 12th Annual “Knock Your Boots Off” Beer Tasting & Chili Cook-Off is an opportunity for beer and chili to take center stage near the heart of historic downtown Golden.
This annual fall event offers beer and chili tasting, along with live entertainment, food vendors, corporate exhibitors and a silent auction.
The Beer Tasting & Chili Cook-Off takes place in Parfet Park, (SE corner of Washington Ave & 10th Street) just adjacent to downtown Golden, Colorado.
The event was created to benefit the Golden Chamber of Commerce and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Help support the Golden Volunteer Fire Department while enjoying a 5k fun run through beautiful Golden followed by music, food trucks, local craft beer and a classic car show!
The event starts and ends in the Historic Goosetown neighborhood, 514 9th St. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The race entry fee is $30 with $10 of every entry donated to the Golden Fire Foundation. In addition, 100 % of vendor fees and sponsorships will also go directly to the Golden Volunteer Fire Dept.

Experience the beauty of the holiday season as you walk through downtown Golden, candle in hand, singing holiday carols during this annual tradition. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand for photos before the walk, then gather at 6 p.m. at the Foothills Art Center, 809 15th St. on Friday, December 6. The walk begins at 6:30 p.m. down to the Visitors Center for a holiday show, the countdown to the lighting of the lights by Mayor Marjorie Sloan, and a short fireworks display from the roof of the Golden Hotel.
Enjoy the lights that will shine all along Washington Avenue and Clear Creek, along with various activities for everyone to enjoy.
Join the Golden Chamber of Commerce for pancakes with Santa! The event is from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Calvary Church, 1320 Arapahoe St. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate the season with your little ones. Breakfast includes pancakes, orange juice, and coffee. All kids will receive a goody bag as part of the experience.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there to listen to all of those wish lists! There will be Carol singing with Alli Coffey and holiday readings by Golden Children’s Librarian, Emily Vrotsos. Celebrity chefs from the Golden Volunteer Fire Department and Calvary Episcopal Church will cook up the breakfast.
Tickets must be purchased in advance at www.goldenchamber.org. Adults are $10, kids are $5, and children under three are free. No tickets will be sold at the door. A portion of the proceeds from Breakfast with Santa will go to the Golden Fire Foundation and Lunch and Life program for the Colorado School of mines free lunch program. Join in the holiday spirit and watch floats, clowns, festive holiday characters, and Santa Claus on the firetruck parade down Washington Avenue. After the parades, head to the downtown area shops and restaurants. Each parade is different, providing the perfect reason to bring the family back to Golden again and again!

A Jefferson Symphony tradition and audience highlight continues with the JSO Holiday Concert. JSO musicians share the stage with vocalists Christie Conover and James Baumgardner in December and return to the newly designed Green Center at Colorado School of Mines. Howard Hanson’s musical homage to the 19th-century “Symphony No. 2 (Romantic)” is programmed alongside Peter Boyer’s bold and brassy “Festivities.”

Santa is coming by the Golden Police Department on Wednesday, December 11 and wants to meet you!
Come get your picture taken with Santa and meet police officers with the Golden Police Department. Officers will also be collecting letters and making sure Santa receives them. There will be snacks, coloring, crafts and much more holiday fun!
