Golden United Housing Task Force @ CSM Arthur Lakes Library "Fish Bowl" Meeting Room

The community driven Golden United Housing Task force is advancing actions to improve access to affordable housing for all income levels while preserving Golden’s unique small town character.

The full Housing Task Force will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. This will feature a discussion with CSM on how we can work together to address and manage student housing needs.

Following that, the Preserving Existing Housing Subgroup will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. All are welcome to participate in this subgroup.​

All are welcome to both meetings on Tuesday, November 19 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the “fish bowl” meeting room at the Colorado School of Mines Arthur Lakes Library.

Breakfast with Santa @ Calvary Church

Mr. and Mrs. Santa wave at the camera.Join the Golden Chamber of Commerce for pancakes with Santa! The event is from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Calvary Church, 1320 Arapahoe St. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate the season with your little ones. Breakfast includes pancakes, orange juice, and coffee. All kids will receive a goody bag as part of the experience.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there to listen to all of those wish lists! There will be Carol singing with Alli Coffey and holiday readings by Golden Children’s Librarian, Emily Vrotsos. Celebrity chefs from the Golden Volunteer Fire Department and Calvary Episcopal Church will cook up the breakfast.

Tickets must be purchased in advance at www.goldenchamber.org. Adults are $10, kids are $5, and children under three are free. No tickets will be sold at the door. A portion of the proceeds from Breakfast with Santa will go to the Golden Fire Foundation and Lunch and Life program for the Colorado School of mines free lunch program. GHS Holiday Bazaar 2019 @ Golden High School

Hoiday Bazaar flyer with snowmen. December 7, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.Come do some Christmas Shopping at the Annual Golden High School Holiday Bazaar held by the PTA of Golden High. With one-of-a-kind gifts from over 90 different local artists, you can make a big dent on your holiday shopping list.

This is a fund raiser for the students at Golden High School, helping with scholarships, after prom party, grants, and more.

The Holiday Bazaar will be held at the Golden High School, 701 24th St, Golden on Saturday, December 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Includes free parking and admission.

JSO Holiday Concert 2019 @ CSM Green Center

Jefferson Symphony OrchestraA Jefferson Symphony tradition and audience highlight continues with the JSO Holiday Concert. JSO musicians share the stage with vocalists Christie Conover and James Baumgardner in December and return to the newly designed Green Center at Colorado School of Mines. Howard Hanson’s musical homage to the 19th-century “Symphony No. 2 (Romantic)” is programmed alongside Peter Boyer’s bold and brassy “Festivities.”

Free screening of “Dark Waters” @ Colorado School of Mines Bunker Auditorium

The Colorado School of Mines will host a free screening of the major motion picture, “Dark Waters” on January 28 at 7 p.m. in the Bunker Auditorium on the Colorado School of Mines campus. The public is welcome and tickets are not required.

This free screening is offered in advance of the keynote address and panel hosted on January 29, featuring Rob Bilott, the environmental attorney who inspired the film.

Mines presents: Future of Forever Chemicals in Colorado – Keynote & panel with Rob Bilott @ Colorado School of Mines Bunker Auditorium

Rob Bilott, the environmental attorney who inspired the movie “Dark Waters” and author of the book “Exposure: Poisoned Water, Corporate Greed, and One Lawyer’s Twenty-Year Battle against DuPont,” will speak at the Colorado School of Mines, Bunker Auditorium on January 29 at 7 p.m. and the public is invited to attend. The event is free, but tickets are required and available online.

A panel discussion and Q&A will follow immediately after with Chris Higgins, professor of civil and environmental engineering; Tracie White, Mines alumna and state remediation program manager; and other state and national PFAS experts. A poster session featuring Mines researchers and industry partners will kick off the evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Mines will screen “Dark Waters,” the movie inspired by Bilott, the day before on January 28 at 7 p.m. in Bunker Auditorium. The screening is also free and open to the public.

Golden High School Chili Cook-Off & Silent Auction @ Golden High School

Help support the Golden High School and enjoy some tasty chili or mac and cheese on Thursday, February 20, 6 – 8:30 p.m. at the Golden High School, 701 24th St. with the PTA’s largest fundraiser of the year – the 8th Annual Golden High School Chili Cook-Off & Silent Auction.

Funds raised last year provided $7000 in grants to classrooms, student clubs, and organizations as well as five $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors.

To register a chili or purchase tickets, visit the GHS PTA website. Tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the door.

5th Annual Jeffco International Women’s Day 2020 @ Baldoria on the Water

International Women's Day in Jeffco 2020 logoCelebrate women at the 5th annual Jeffco International Women’s Day on March 3 at Baldoria on the Water, 146 Van Gordon Street in Lakewood. The event is sponsored by SCL Health Lutheran and the City of Golden, with additional corporate sponshorships from Genesee Mountain Foundation, IX Power Clean Water, and corporate contributor, Coach Stacy’s Healthy U. Proceeds will benefit Porchlight Family Justice Center and the Jefferson County Library Foundation.

CU Regent Heidi Ganahl & founder of “Camp Bow Wow” will be the keynote speaker at this event during lunch. The winner of the “Unsung Heroine” Award will be announced as well, and Marjorie Sloan will be presented with the “Shattered Glass” Award. Come early to network and learn “The truth about personal & cyber security  today from a genuine, female Denver FBI agent”.

Whale of a Used Book Sale @ Jeffco Fairgrounds

Colorado’s largest and most popular used book sale is back at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds from Wednesday through Sunday, Oct. 14 – 18. The sale is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Friends Night is on Wednesday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

To ensure social distancing, no more than 50 shoppers will be allowed entry at the top of each hour, and shoppers have 50 minutes to shop before they are required to check out so that another 50 shoppers can come in.

To guarantee entry at a time of your choosing, you’re encouraged to register in advance online for $5/person. Registration opens on September 30. Each paid registration includes one complimentary book of your choosing (a few exceptions apply). Register at www.WhaleSale.org.
