Local Licensing Authority

On June 14, 2022, City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2183which allows the City of Golden to regulate up to four retail marijuana businesses within certain areas. Learn more about Marijuana Licensing Regulations.

The Board is comprised of a Hearing Officer who is appointed by City Council. The Hearing Officer considers matters related to Liquor Licensing, Regulated Marijuana Licensing, and Nicotine and Tobacco Product Retailers Licensing.

Meetings

The Local Liquor Licensing Authority meets on the third Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise noted on the calendar. These meetings are open to the public and take place in City Council Chambers, 911 10th Street at 2:30 p.m. For more information call (303) 384-8015.

Liquor Licensing

Please contact Deputy City Clerk Stacy McClure for information and necessary forms related to liquor licensing.  An appointment will be necessary in order to submit applications and payments.

Special Event Permit

Approval of a Special Event Permit application is necessary to sell, serve, or distribute alcohol beverages.  There are specific rules and regulations governing the sale or service of alcohol at your event.  The applicant must be from a qualifying organization per 44-5-102 C.R.S. (Colorado Revised Statutes). It is the applicant’s responsibility to read and understand the rules and regulations regarding sales or service of alcohol at an event.  If an applicant has questions regarding the process or application, it is recommended that they seek legal counsel on the interpretation of the regulations.

A complete application and payment must be submitted directly to the City of Golden a minimum of 30 days prior to the event. Page 2 of the Special Event Liquor Permit Application includes a checklist of all required documentation.

TiPS – Alcohol Server and Seller Training

TiPS CertificationLiquor establishments in the City of Golden are charged with selling liquor responsibly. In an effort to prevent underage drinking and the tragedies that often accompany it, as well as other liquor violations, the Golden Police Department provides TiPS – Alcohol Server and Seller Training.
