Golden Firefighters are certified through the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control and our training program is based on the National Fire Protection Association Standards. The bottom line is getting the job done and doing it well. The division takes pride in utilizing proven strategies for training our crews. We know the basics are the foundation of a quality service, and our standard evolutions are the core of our training program.
The first defender of freedom, the American Firefighter, must also prepare for the unexpected. Producing thinking firefighters is our goal. We are sensitive to the special community we are fortunate enough to serve and tailor our training to meet the unique qualities of this diverse community. Active participation in regional and national training programs, including the National Fire Academy, is an essential component of our program.
Recruit Academy
We train entry level personnel through a series of courses and experiences designed to create fire fighters. We go beyond the minimums, and demand a great deal more of our recruits. The Golden volunteer recruits receive the same quality training as a career firefighter working for a large fire Department.
Every recruit presents a case study to the class to raise the awareness of safety on the line. We open the academy to affiliated personnel from area departments. The coursework is accredited and graduates receive college credit and a myriad of certifications for their efforts. We strongly believe recruit training is the foundation for lifelong learning in the fire service.
Specialties
In addition to top notch fire fighter training, we address the awareness, operations and technician level for special operations. These skills address the applicable standards and make the Golden Fire Technical Rescue Team (TRT) among the best trained and most experienced in the nation. From the adjacent mountain tops, with high angle rope rescue, to the torrents of Clear Creek, with a leading swift water team, we serve at a moment’s notice. Quality mutual aid resources support these intense rescue scenes.
We are a recognized medical training facility at the first responder level, and our EMT basic and paramedic training is conducted through our association with Exempla Lutheran Medical Center.
