Joe Harvey sworn in as Chief of Police by City ClerkOn March 16, the Golden Police Department swore in Joe Harvey as its next Chief of Police as members of the Golden command staff, members of the officers’ families and city officials looked on.

Chief Harvey has more than 34 years of experience in law enforcement. He joined the Golden Police Department in 2015 and has served as Deputy Chief since 2018.

“The City of Golden is in good hands with Chief Joe Harvey as the next leader of the Golden Police Department,” said Laura Weinberg, Mayor of Golden. “We are grateful for his years of service to the people of Golden already and look forward to his service to the community for years to come.”

Harvey is the first new Chief of Police in Golden in twenty years, as Chief Bill Kilpatrick recently announced his retirement after leading the Golden Police Department since 2002.

“I’ve been honored to serve alongside Joe Harvey, and he’s earned the trust of our department, our City Council, and other city leaders. Chief Harvey will carry forward the progress of the Golden Police Department with a steady hand and a clear vision,” said Retiring Chief of Police Bill Kilpatrick.

Retiring Chief Kilpatrick swore in Joe Harvey as the new Chief of Police in Golden, along with the new Deputy Chief and the following sergeants and commanders:

  • Deputy Chief Mike Hendershot
  • Sergeant Justin Garcia
  • Sergeant Ryan Beale
  • Commander Marcus Williams
  • Commander Mark Donohue
