Historic Preservation Board Meeting @ Council Chambers

The Historic Preservation Board has a number of responsibilities regarding the preservation and upkeep of Golden’s many historic sites.

The Board meets on the first Monday evening of each month in public hearing in the City Council Chambers at 6:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted on the calendar. Study sessions may be scheduled the third Monday of each month.

Planning Commission Meeting @ Council Chambers

The Planning Commission, established in 1948, affords residents the opportunity to actively participate in the planning of the City and its welfare; to learn all facets of the regulations governing such functions; interact with a wide variety of citizens participating in the shaping of Golden’s future; and assume an active role in any regulation changes involving zoning and subdivision activity.

Planning Commission public hearings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. Planning Commission Study Sessions recur on the third Wednesday of each month.

International Women’s Day Luncheon 2018 @ Baldoria on the Water

International Womens Day 2018Celebrating the Contributions & Achievements of Women in Golden and throughout Jefferson County! International Women’s Day got its start at the turn of the twentieth century in North America and across Europe as part of the labor movement. The day was first marked 109 years ago, and today hundreds of communities around the globe celebrate the many contributions and achievements of women everywhere, while noting improvements that are needed to improve life for women, children and men worldwide. This year, in keeping with the objective of the United Nations for gender parity in all careers, we are focusing on the future of women in STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. We are proud to be working with the Golden Library and DECTech at the Colorado School of Mines to recognize young women (grades 5 – 8) with the “Girls in STEM” awards at our luncheon event.

Schedule of events:

9 – 11 a.m. – Pre-event mini seminars (included with price of Luncheon ticket)

11 – 11:30 a.m. – Networking & Business Showcase

11:30 am – Luncheon Event:

  • Keynote speaker: Brynn Watson, Lockheed Martin aerospace engineer

CSM Master Plan Neighborhood Meeting @ Starzer Welcome Center

The Colorado School of Mines is developing a new master plan in conjunction with the MINES@150 plan. Mines will hold the first of three neighborhood meetings over the next several months, to gather public input for the master plan.

The meeting will be held in the Starzer Welcome Center at Colorado School of Mines, 1812 Illinois Street on Thursday, March 8, 5:30 – 7 p.m.

Enter on the north side of the building from 18th St. Upon entering, the meeting room is to the right.

Parking is located in lot E on the west side of the building. Parking is free after 5 p.m.

The Golden City Council meets in Council Chambers in City Hall every second and fourth Thursday at 6:30 p.m., unless rescheduled due to holidays or other events happening in the city.

JOY Children’s Carnival @ CSM Kafadar Commons

JOY (Jamboree for Outstanding Youngsters) is a children’s carnival put on by Colorado School of Mines coed service and leadership fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, that promotes STEM-related activities for local youth.

Held on the Colorado School of Mines campus, it includes a variety of STEM activities hosted by campus and community organizations. The theme for the carnival this year is dinosaurs!

Rescheduled: GURA Meeting (with location change) @ Golden Natural Grocers

The GURA Meeting on March 12th will be a walking tour of the Central Neighborhoods led by Steve Glueck.  If you are interested in attending, please meet at the Natural Grocers at 5:30.  The tour will last approximately one hour.

In 1989, the Golden City Council created the Golden Urban Renewal Authority (GURA) to support the economic vitality of downtown Golden. When the Golden City Council created GURA, it also adopted an Urban Renewal Plan to provide guidance to GURA. The organization implements urban renewal projects, consistent with community values.

The Golden Urban Renewal Authority normally meets on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. Please note the time and location change for the March 12, 2018 meeting.

Golden Safety Academy @ Golden Fire Department Training Room

Golden Safety Academy PosterThe Golden Safety Academy was created to help educate and empower citizens with information and resources that enhance their personal safety and crime prevention. This free academy is held once a month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the second Monday of every month in the Golden Fire Department, except for the June class, which will be on Tuesday, June 12 in Council Chambers. You may attend one, several or all sessions.
