The 2nd Annual Summer Jam, sponsored by the Golden Civic Foundation, features live music, food and fun for all ages. The goal of this summertime event is to connect with Golden families and residents, promote community involvement and celebrate Golden’s small town, friendly atmosphere.
The evening will feature live music by three local bands including The Great Salmon Famine, Chris Thompson & Friends and Burn it Blue. Attendees will also have the chance to explore the Colorado Railroad Museum’s scenic, 15-acre railyard that is home to more than 100 locomotives, passenger cars and cabooses. Guests can enjoy a ride on the Galloping Goose Railway and also delight in the charm of a fully operational miniature garden railway. Food and beverages will be provided by New Terrain Brewing Co., Rolling Dough wood-fired pizza, Rolling Dogs and Em’s Ice Cream food trucks. Spark City Children’s Museum and The Kids Music Project by Coral Creek will also be on-site with the Spark City Bus, a mobile children’s museum, and a musical instrument “petting zoo.”
Tickets to the Golden Summer Jam are $20 for adults and free for youth under 18 and are available online. Each adult ticket includes one complimentary New Terrain beer. Event proceeds will support the Golden Civic Foundation, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization. All ticket sales are final and tickets to this event are non-refundable.
Come to the premiere of the documentary Help, Hope, Strength on July 17 at 6 p.m. at Foothills Art Center, 809 15th St. and learn about the meaning behind the new mural on north Washington Avenue.
The new 1,000 ft. long mural covers the retaining wall along Washington Avenue between 2nd and 5th streets. This is the product of an 18-month long program that involved Foothills Art Center, Golden High School, Golden Rotary Club, and Denver artist, Jolt.
The new mural reflects mental health issues in our community with an uplifting message about help, hope, and strength. The mural design came from students working along with the artist.

The Railroad Halloween Town is a safe place to enjoy Trick or Treating. Catch a ride behind a historic Denver & Rio Grande Steam Locomotive in vintage passenger cars hosted by conductors and engineers in full costume.
Visit all of the special stops to fill your treat bags and tickle your funny bones including the “not so spooky” Haunted Railcar and the Olde Railroaders Silly Graveyard. Enjoy local food, kettle corn, shaved ice and even get your face painted. Finally, get a great picture of your costume as you pose in front of the Pumpkin Patch cart. On Veteran’s Day, Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, the City of Golden and Golden History Museum & Park will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I with a day of celebration, programs, and free admission. The Museum opens at 10 a.m. and ceremonies begin at 11 a.m.
The 1968 time capsule that has been buried in the sidewalk next to Golden’s Liberty Bell in front of City Hall for the past 50 years will be opened and its contents unveiled for the public to see at the Golden History Museum, 923 10th St.
The time capsule tradition began in 1918 when Golden residents buried the first one in honor of the end of WWI and asked that the people of 1968 open it. The next generation dutifully opened the capsule and buried another for us to celebrate and experience in 2018. In the same tradition, we will bury a time capsule with items representing our times for the people of 2068 to open.

Attendees will also have the chance to explore the Colorado Railroad Museum’s scenic, 15-acre railyard that is home to more than 100 locomotives, passenger cars and cabooses. Guests can enjoy a ride on the Galloping Goose Railway and also delight in the charm of a fully operational miniature garden railway.
Local non-profit partners will be on-site to offer family-oriented activities including the Colorado Mountain Club with their popular Bouldering Bus and the Golden Backpack Program and The Drake Durkee Foundation who have partnered to provide a Bouncy House for the evening. Food and beverage will be sold by New Terrain Brewing Co. (beer), Ace Liquor (wine), Bob’s Atomic Burgers, the Crock Spot and Mooontime Crepes food trucks.

Archaeology isn’t just about digs in exotic locations far away from here. Golden has a rich history that we’re still “uncovering”! Stop by the Golden History Museum (923 10th St.) on Saturday, April 30 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and visit with archaeologist Amy Gillaspie while she photographs artifacts collected during the Astor House Community Archaeology Project excavation of summer 2021.
Learn more about the Astor House dig site, ask about a day in the life of an archaeologist, or just take a look at the artifacts. Amy specializes in social changes at Front Range historic sites and has also excavated at Plains sites in Colorado and North Dakota, at Classic Maya sites in Belize, and for the US Department of Defense on a World War II recovery mission in France. This a free drop-in event with NO registration required.
