Economic Development Commission Meeting @ Golden Public Works Building

The Economic Development Commission (EDComm) was established by Golden City Council in June of 1999 and consists of eight members. The purpose of the Economic Development Commission is to provide leadership, education, and the tools necessary for the Golden community to optimize appropriate economic opportunities. Their duties include developing a structure and strategy for marketing/promoting the Golden community.

The Economic Development Commission meets regularly on the second Tuesday of each month starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Public Works/Planning building located at 1445 10th Street. If a meeting must be rescheduled for some reason, the date will be noted on the Community Calendar.

Learn about Leadership Golden Gathering @ Old Capitol Grill

Join alums and board members of Leadership Golden for a casual gathering on Thursday night, July 12 at 5 p.m. for free appetizers and a cash bar to learn all about this unique educational experience.

This tuition-free program offers sessions one night per month, Sept through May, introducing Golden citizens to city government, history, public finance, education, parks, public safety services, and much more. Join the group for this casual meet and greet on July 12 to see what it’s all about, then apply for the program to meet the July 31 deadline for the 2018-2019 35th anniversary class. Bring a friend or colleague!

2nd Annual Summer Jam @ Colorado Railroad Museum

Golden Summer Jam 2018The 2nd Annual Summer Jam, sponsored by the Golden Civic Foundation, features live music, food and fun for all ages. The goal of this summertime event is to connect with Golden families and residents, promote community involvement and celebrate Golden’s small town, friendly atmosphere.

The evening will feature live music by three local bands including The Great Salmon Famine, Chris Thompson & Friends and Burn it Blue. Attendees will also have the chance to explore the Colorado Railroad Museum’s scenic, 15-acre railyard that is home to more than 100 locomotives, passenger cars and cabooses. Guests can enjoy a ride on the Galloping Goose Railway and also delight in the charm of a fully operational miniature garden railway. Food and beverages will be provided by New Terrain Brewing Co., Rolling Dough wood-fired pizza, Rolling Dogs and Em’s Ice Cream food trucks. Spark City Children’s Museum and The Kids Music Project by Coral Creek will also be on-site with the Spark City Bus, a mobile children’s museum, and a musical instrument “petting zoo.”

Tickets to the Golden Summer Jam are $20 for adults and free for youth under 18 and are available online. Each adult ticket includes one complimentary New Terrain beer. Event proceeds will support the Golden Civic Foundation, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization. All ticket sales are final and tickets to this event are non-refundable.

Regular City Council Meeting @ Council Chambers

The Golden City Council meets in Council Chambers in City Hall every second and fourth Thursday at 6:30 p.m., unless rescheduled due to holidays or other events happening in the city.

Yarn Bombing Golden’s Public Art @ Downtown Golden

ARTSweek yarn bombingThe Ladies Fancywork Society will sneak into town on the Friday before ARTSWEEEK GOLDEN to embellish some of Golden’s downtown sculpture with their crocheted creations. Keep an eye out for new decorations on your favorite public art!

Golden Weekends @ Downtown Golden

Downtown GoldenEvery Friday and Saturday night from June 1 through August 31, 5 to 8 p.m., Golden’s downtown comes alive with activity for the whole family to enjoy.

Dozens of Golden businesses stay open until at least 8 p.m. and offer specials, in-store demonstrations, samples and more.

Live music on the street corners, free carriage rides, and merchant special activities bring the festivities outdoors onto the sidewalks and in stores and restaurants throughout the summer weekend evenings.

The Downtown Golden Merchant Partners (DGMP) is hosting the events, with support from the Downtown Development Authority, in appreciation of the Golden community.

Participating businesses will be marked by a gold balloon at their front doors. Golden Weekends will not take place during Buffalo Bill Days weekend nor on Super Cruise Saturdays.

Free parking during the evenings will make it easy for families and visitors to come enjoy Golden Weekends.

ARTSWEEK GOLDEN

artsweek golden logoJoin in a week-long celebration of the arts! ARTSWEEK GOLDEN includes activites that will take place throughout Golden such as yarn-bombing of Golden sculptures, performance art, sidewalk chalk masterpieces, and plein air painting. Parking spots along Washington Avenue will be converted into pop-up art studios.

The festival will culminate in a weekend arts festival with more than 100 national artists exhibiting their works in a spectacular setting on the Colorado School of Mines campus. Foothills Art Center (FAC) is organizing the entire event.
