Graduates of any of the 35 years of Leadership Golden are invited to attend this free annual meeting of the Leadership Golden Alumni Association. The event will be held at the Golden Visitors Center, 1010 Washington Avenue on Tuesday, October 2 at 5:30 p.m.

• Pay your $10 annual dues (or pay your dues online)
• Participate in our annual meeting including: Board and Steering Committee updates and elections

In 2011, the idea of Coffee with a Cop was born in a small California town. Since then, there have been thousands of these coffee gatherings in all 50 states and even in 14 different countries. Golden Police participated in the past, but it fell off the radar in recent years. Now, Golden Police officers want to bring it back to our city.

“I believe it is going to be a good thing to bring this event back to Golden,” said event organizer Corporal Adam Lanning. “Many of our citizens like to speak and talk to officers and this just gives them another opportunity.”

Join the Golden Police Department for Coffee with a Cop from 7 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Café 13, 1301 Arapahoe St.  The owners of Café 13 have graciously agreed to host the event and provide free coffee and pastries to anyone who comes. There is no agenda and no speeches, just open and honest communication in a comfortable environment. We hope to see you there!

This is a great opportunity to talk with representatives and residents of the South Neighborhoods, as well as any issue related to the “good of Golden.”

The Golden Safety Academy was created to help educate and empower citizens with information and resources that enhance their personal safety and crime prevention. This free academy is held once a month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the second Monday of every month in the Golden Fire Department, except for the June class, which will be on Tuesday, June 12 in Council Chambers. You may attend one, several or all sessions.

A Golden tradition, the Knock Your Boots Off Chili Cook-Off and Beer Tasting is now in its 11^th year!

General admission tickets include free samples from over 30 chili competitors, 90 different beers (courtesy of Coors Distributing), and a live show by country faves Buckstein!

Chili cooks compete for the People’s Choice award in three categories: Red Chili, Green Chili, and White Chili.

A portion of the proceeds goes towards the Golden Chamber of Commerce’s Scholarship Fund for Golden High School and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

The event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. in Parfet Park, corner of 10th Street and Washington Avenue.

This Statewide Ballot Issues community meeting happens on Saturday, October 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Jefferson Unitarian Church. Free and open to the public, the meeting is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Jefferson County and the Jefferson Unitarian Church Community Action Network (JUC CAN).

All statewide ballot issues will be explained and pro/con arguments will be presented. Representatives from both sides of each issue have been invited to have a display table and answer your questions. No candidates will be present. Join us for a Jefferson County Commissioner Candidates Forum and a Meet and Greet for 2018 Jefferson County candidates, which includes Commissioner, Clerk and Recorder, Treasurer, Assessor, Sheriff, Coroner, Surveyor, and RTD races. This event, free and open to the public, will only have County candidates; no Colorado State or House candidates will be in attendance.

Get your book now and then join fellow residents, students and scholars for the second installation of the Town and Gown Book Club from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18 in the Boettcher Room in the Arthur Lakes Library on the Colorado School of Mines campus. The purpose of the Book Club is to read and discuss books of general interest, but also access the expertise of the City of Golden, Mines faculty and students, and visiting scholars.

The book for October is Matthew Walker’s Why We Sleep, Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams. Here is a little preview:

Your reservation commits you to obtaining a copy of the book and reading it before the meeting. The book is available at book stores, local libraries, or online.
