There will be a public meeting on January 10 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for neighbors interested in future plans for the roundabouts on Heritage Road. City Staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide updated information. Concerns will be given to a third party engineering firm for review.

Jefferson County Transportation and Engineering is sponsoring a Public Meeting to discuss the Preliminary Design of proposed improvements on McIntyre Street. The meeting will take place at Drake Junior High School at 12550 W. 52nd Avenue in Arvada from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The second phase of the McIntyre roadway improvements will include widening of the road to four lanes with a raised center median, adding bike lanes, and placing curb, gutter, sidewalk, and storm sewer from West 52^nd Avenue to West 60^th Avenue. Two new box culverts will be installed where the Farmer’s Highline Canal crosses McIntyre Street. A new bridge will also be installed at the Van Bibber Creek crossing that will include pedestrian access under McIntyre.

Please join us Tuesday, April 11 between 6 and 8 p.m. for the next meeting on the Washington Avenue complete street project. This project will consist of improvements on Washington Avenue between 10^th Street north to Hwy 93. Based on input provided at our January 23 public meeting, we’ve developed several engineering solutions for the corridor to address:

• Safe bike facilities
• Enhanced pedestrian facilities and safety
• Reduced vehicular speeds

The design team has developed several concepts and we’d like your input.

The meeting will be an open house format held at Mitchell Elementary School, 201 N Ruby Drive.

Join us for the second community planning process and public input opportunity for the Colorado School of Mines neighborhoods from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14 at the Golden Community Center. This meeting will review outcomes of the April 12 meeting, and further define needs of the neighborhood resulting in a report for City Council.

This City-driven process is not intended to address the arrangement of various University uses within the campus boundaries. Rather, the focus will be on the relationship of the campus as a whole to the community, and the interface of campus boundaries with nearby residential, commercial, cultural and recreational uses. City Council and staff are seeking specific input and recommendations as to how the relationship of the buildings and uses along the edges of campus can meet the University’s needs while respecting and enhancing the physical and social relationship with adjacent neighbors.

Can’t make the meeting? There is still opportunity to voice your opinion by taking the Colorado School of Mines Neighborhoods’ Survey.

Dr. Jason Glass is officially taking the reins as superintendent of Jeffco Public Schools on July 1. He will be “hittin’ the road” on Monday, July 10 to meet, talk with, and get to know some of the families in Jeffco. As he visits with the community, Dr. Glass has been asking three key questions: What should we keep doing? What should we stop doing? What should we start doing? He is interested in hearing from all facets of our district to help identify priorities to develop a plan to move the district forward and best serve students.

Superintendent Glass be in Golden from 1:30 to 2:30 at the Golden Community Center on July 10. If you’re unable to make that time, however, you go to one of the other locations he is planning to visit that day. The full schedule is as follows:

Before joining Jeffco Public Schools, Dr. Glass served as the superintendent of Eagle County Schools, establishing a vision based on international benchmarking and an accompanying comprehensive strategic plan. He also worked as Iowa’s director of education after being appointed by Governor Terry Branstad, serving as the state’s chief state school officer and leading a successful education reform effort that culminated in landmark legislation signed into law in 2013. Other posts held include senior director of human capital strategy with Battelle for Kids, director of human resources for Eagle County Schools, director of research & assessment for Eagle County Schools, vice president of quality ratings with Qualistar Early Learning, several positions with the Colorado Department of Education, and a university instructor and high school teacher in Kentucky. In December 2016, Dr. Glass was appointed to the National Board for Education Sciences board of directors by President Barack Obama. Dr. Glass holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and two master’s degrees from the University of Kentucky (education and political science). He holds a doctorate in education from Seton Hall University. Dr. Glass just moved to Lakewood, along with his wife, Sarah, and their two children, Norah and Chase, who will attend Jeffco Public Schools. RTD is proposing to cut W Line rail service from every 15 minutes to every 30 minutes, for all stops between Federal Center Station and the end of line Golden station, except for weekday a.m. and p.m. commuting hours.

The Public Meeting to discuss these changes, recommended to begin January 2018, will take place on Thursday, September 28, 6 p.m. at the Golden Community Center, 1470 10^th Street. Please come and support our need for continued service along our rail line of every 15 minutes.

Golden contracted with the engineering firm Bohannan Huston to conduct an independent, third party review of the roundabouts on Heritage and the traffic calming on Eagle Ridge Drive.  They have completed their review and the preliminary report is available for download below.

Engineers from Bohannan Huston will be at a public meeting to discuss their review and the results on Monday October 23 at 6 p.m. at Shelton Elementary. This meeting will have a presentation and opportunity for questions. It will not be open house format.

• Heritage Road Corridor Study

A transportation study of portions of C-470, US 6, and CO 93 between Littleton and Boulder is nearly complete. The Colorado Department of Transportation and the WestConnect Coalition of agencies have been conducting a Planning and Environmental Linkages study to evaluate and develop short-term and long-term transportation alternatives, and to identify proposed improvements along C-470, between Kipling Street and Interstate 70, and along the US 6/CO 93 corridor between Golden and Boulder.

The PEL study evaluated options to reduce congestion, improve operational performance and safety, and address future transportation needs. Transportation improvement alternatives were developed and screened using local agency and public stakeholder input.

Draft study recommendations and evaluation of these improvements will be presented at the study’s final round of public meetings this month. Recommendations vary by location, and include roadway laneage, intersection/interchange, trail, technology, and corridor management improvements.

Members of the public are invited to attend one of the three upcoming public meetings to review the draft recommendations. The meetings will all present the same information in open house format, with a brief presentation. Please attend the meeting most convenient for you to discuss the study with project team members and provide your feedback. Public input is an important component of this study, and CDOT will consider your comments as they refine the recommended improvements.
