In observance of Christmas Day, which falls on a Sunday this year, City Offices will be closed on Monday, December 26.
We hope you all had a safe and happy Christmas weekend!
Join Golden High School for a Chili Cook Off and Silent Auction on Thursday, Feb. 23 from 6 to 8:30 pm in the GHS school cafeteria.
Make a great chili? Show us your stuff! Awards will be given to the top chili in each of four categories: green, red, white, and vegetarian. If you like chili but don’t want to cook, come on down and taste as much chili as you can, then vote on your favorite.
Cooks can join for free, just register online. Tasters can buy a ticket, $5 in advance online or $7 at the door. Then find great deals at the Silent Auction: gift certificates to your favorite restaurants, tickets to sporting events, and more. You’ll find manicures, auto and other services, and even bid on a GHS parking spot right up front and marked for the Silent Auction winner – great for a student driver.
This is GHS’s major fundraiser of the year. Last year, ten scholarships and over $3000 in requests for equipment and supplies that went directly into our classrooms were raised.
Register to bring your chili or buy tickets online and learn more on the Golden High School PTA website.
The Golden luncheon will present awards for winners of Golden Library’s STEM contest for girls, and offer door prizes and networking opportunities. Dr. Tracy Camp, the Division Director and Professor of Computer Science at Colorado School of Mines, will deliver the keynote address entitled Opportunities and Challenges for Diversifying STEM.

This is the second year that International Women’s Day has been celebrated in Jefferson County, Colorado, and the City of Golden will this year proclaim March 8 as Women’s Day. In many countries around the world, this is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. International Women’s Day first emerged at the turn of the twentieth century in North America and across Europe and the first time it was observed nationally in the U.S. was in 1909. The Charter of the United Nations, signed in 1945, was the first international agreement to affirm the principle of equality between women and men.
STEM Contest
The Golden Library, which has an active STEM girls program, is holding a contest for girls in grades 5 through 8. Colorado School of Mines Female Students (via DECTech) will be judging the contest.
For more information about the STEM contest, contact the Golden Library at 303-235-5275.
There will be one more fundraiser for the Colorado Police Unity Tour on March 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Colorado Mills Chick-fil-A. A portion of the proceeds of any purchases made during that time will go to the riders. This year, participants are riding in honor of Cpl. Nate Carrigan.
The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is a raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty. The secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum.
Students from the Colorado School of Mines declare this a day of service for Golden. The event starts at 8 a.m. on the CSM Pedestrian Plaza where students will gather and be assigned a project.
The day is devoted to giving back to the community and to those who support the school. Do you have a project request? Sign up and let them know right away!
Bring the little ones to Parfet Park on Saturday, April 15 at 10 a.m. for an Easter egg hunt hosted by the Kiwanis Club.
Eggs will be hidden all over the park and the hunt is free and open to all children ages 9 and under. Don’t be late! The hunt kicks off at 10 a.m. sharp and with so many eager little hunters, those eggs won’t stay hidden long.

You can purchase raffle tickets before the concert in the lobby, or ahead of time either on April 22 from 12-3 p.m. at the E-Days Carnival, or from tables set up in the Pedestrian Plaza in front of the Student Recreation Center on campus from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 24-28. For $1 each ticket, you can win small prizes such as cupcakes from Gold Mine Cupcakes, gift cards from Anthony’s pizza and Woody’s pizza, a Chick-Fil-A gift basket, and much more! You must be present to win these prizes.
