Nov 14 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

OFA TalksOFA TALKS is a new and unique forum focused around 12 minute talks on policies affecting each of us— from healthcare to tax policy; “green” technologies to the carbon industries and education.  It’s fast, fun, informative, and full of facts. People from all walks of life are welcome and encouraged to attend.

This OFA TALKS event will have five speakers and two moderated, Q&A sessions.

1) What the Heck is TABOR & Why Should I Care?
TABOR influences virtually every aspect of government in Colorado. State Representative and Member of the House Finance Committee Chris Kennedy will provide an overview of TABOR and what you can do to learn more about this important tax policy.

2) Rebuilding America in 3 Easy Steps
“Net Zero” has become the latest buzzword for city planning, but what does it mean, really? Aurora former Director of Planning & Development Bob Watkins will explain how America is about to be rebuilt, again, and things we can do to insure a sustainable future for us all.

3) Colorado Education Network: The Promise of Colorado
Educator Janet Gunn will talk about how public education is literally the foundation of our future. Even if you don’t have children or grandchildren, you do have a personal interest in our future community members.

4) The Oil Industry: What the Frack?
Carbon-based fuels are a vast improvement on their predecessors, but how do we move to improved energy conversion that will power the planet in a clean and more efficient manner? Conservationist and entrepreneur John R. (Grizz) Deal will give us a jump start on this important issue

5) Getting a Pulse on Healthcare
How does healthcare affect you? Is healthcare “infrastructure” or just a nice thing to have? Doctor Irene Aguilar will diagnose the issues.

All money collected will go to the JeffCo Action Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people on the pathway to self-sufficiency. With $3 you can provide funding for one meal!
Limited seating is available! Purchase your tickets in advance or at the door, if available.

Why Has America Stopped Inventing? @ Council Chambers
Jan 10 @ 6:00 pm – 8:15 pm

Join us at this free, dual meeting of FRIENDS of the Jefferson County Public Library and the JeffCo Innovators’ Workshop. This is a meet and greet, networking and author event featuring Denver attorney Darin Gibby who will discuss his books including “Why Has America Stopped Inventing?” and “Chasing Hindy.” Participants will also have the opportunity to showcase a product or service, and practice their pitch!

From 6 to 6:30 p.m., attendees are encouraged to bring prototypes, actual samples, or concept drafts for their new product or service to share with the group in an informal networking session/mini-tradeshow. As long as it is not bigger than a beer cooler, you don’t not have to notify the Workshop in advance.

Then, participate with Darin Gibby in a discussion of his books “Why Has America Stopped Inventing” and “Chasing Hindy.” In addition to a thriving career as a novelist, author Darin Gibby is also one of the country’s premiere patent attorneys and a partner at the prestigious firm of Kilpatrick Townsend. With over 20 years of experience in obtaining patents on hundreds of inventions from the latest drug delivery systems to life-saving cardiac equipment, he has built IP portfolios for numerous Fortune 500 companies. In addition to securing patents, Gibby helps clients enforce and license their patents around the world, and he has monetized patents on a range of products.

Following Darin Gibby, there will be time for two or three “practice pitches” about a business or service. Everybody has a pitch for their product or company, but, how good is yours? At the JeffCo Innovators’ Workshop on January 10, you can present your 5 to 8-minute pitch (with or without slides) and get valuable feedback from our experts and the audience in a friendly setting.

To participate on January 10 with your pitch you must contact Deborah Deal in advance at Deborah@IxPowerFoundation.org with your name, phone # and some information about what you want to pitch. Also tell us if you will need the slide projector. (You can also show your product at the 6-6:30 pm networking time.) First come! First served! We will hold a spot for the first three requesters.

Free, but please RSVP online.

(If you are bringing more than yourself, and want to RSVP for several people without going through Meetup, go to Eventbrite and enter search term “Inventing” or JeffCo Innovators Workshop.)

The JeffCo Innovators’ Workshop offered by the IX Power Foundation has been operating in Jefferson County since 2013. To suggest a speaker or topic, call the IX Power Foundation at 303-277-9523.

Public Meeting: WestConnect Planning & Environmental Linkages Study @ Golden Community Center
Jan 16 @ 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm

A transportation study of portions of C-470, US 6, and CO 93 between Littleton and Boulder is nearly complete. The Colorado Department of Transportation and the WestConnect Coalition of agencies have been conducting a Planning and Environmental Linkages study to evaluate and develop short-term and long-term transportation alternatives, and to identify proposed improvements along C-470, between Kipling Street and Interstate 70, and along the US 6/CO 93 corridor between Golden and Boulder.

The PEL study evaluated options to reduce congestion, improve operational performance and safety, and address future transportation needs. Transportation improvement alternatives were developed and screened using local agency and public stakeholder input.

Draft study recommendations and evaluation of these improvements will be presented at the study’s final round of public meetings this month. Recommendations vary by location, and include roadway laneage, intersection/interchange, trail, technology, and corridor management improvements.

Members of the public are invited to attend one of the three upcoming public meetings to review the draft recommendations. The meetings will all present the same information in open house format, with a brief presentation. Please attend the meeting most convenient for you to discuss the study with project team members and provide your feedback. Public input is an important component of this study, and CDOT will consider your comments as they refine the recommended improvements.

An online option will be available beginning Jan. 16, which will include four videos presenting the public meeting graphic displays. To view the graphics and provide comments, visit westconnectpel.codot.gov.
