This free academy is held once a month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the second Monday of every month in the Golden Fire Department, except for the June class, which will be on Tuesday, June 12 in Council Chambers. The free Olde Golden Christmas Parade starts at 10:30 a.m. with cowboys on horses, floats, bands, old cars, elves on unicycles, the Grinch in his corvette, and of course, Santa Claus.
The parade winds down Washington Avenue with lots of activities before and after including snappy barbershop quartets, hot cider, Victorian carolers, and antique fire trucks. The parades are presented by the Golden Chamber of Commerce.

On Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Golden Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give you the opportunity to get rid of expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. By getting rid of these types of potentially dangerous drugs, you can prevent pill abuse and theft. Bring your pills for disposal (the DEA cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps, only pills or patches) to the Golden Police Department at 911 10th St, Golden, CO. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines (flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash) both pose potential safety and health hazards.
