By joining the GFD, you learn much more than how to put out fires. You will learn medical rescue techniques, high angle rescue, swift water and ice rescue, how to save people from car crashes, and much more. You will be helping your neighbors, friends and fellow residents in one of the most long-standing and honorable ways possible for Golden volunteers.

Join us for one of two open houses to meet the staff and volunteers and get all of your questions answered. Come enjoy free food and refreshments and let us get to know you! Graduates of any of the 35 years of Leadership Golden are invited to attend this free annual meeting of the Leadership Golden Alumni Association. The event will be held at the Golden Visitors Center, 1010 Washington Avenue on Tuesday, October 2 at 5:30 p.m.

In 2011, the idea of Coffee with a Cop was born in a small California town. Since then, there have been thousands of these coffee gatherings in all 50 states and even in 14 different countries. Golden Police participated in the past, but it fell off the radar in recent years. Now, Golden Police officers want to bring it back to our city.

“I believe it is going to be a good thing to bring this event back to Golden,” said event organizer Corporal Adam Lanning. “Many of our citizens like to speak and talk to officers and this just gives them another opportunity.”

Join the Golden Police Department for Coffee with a Cop from 7 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Café 13, 1301 Arapahoe St.  The owners of Café 13 have graciously agreed to host the event and provide free coffee and pastries to anyone who comes. There is no agenda and no speeches, just open and honest communication in a comfortable environment. We hope to see you there!

The Golden Planning Division will host a Community Open House event regarding the Transportation Master Plan. A project vision, project goals and project objective were developed and now the City needs citizen input.

What do you think are the most important goals of the TMP? How should funding be prioritized? Which types of projects are most meaningful to the community?

The Golden Urban Renewal Authority (GURA) and the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will host a joint open house to share information on their respective and mutual goals, projects and programs and to gather community input on capital investments.

Now in its 36^th Year, Leadership Golden is accepting applications for the 2019-20 Program.  This tuition-free program provides local learning about Golden with 11 sessions that run from Sept. 7 to May 7, 2020.  Topics include Golden history, government, public works, finance, growth and development, education, arts and recreation, and the justice system.  Great program for newcomers and long-time residents interested in the fabric of Golden.  Visit leadershipgolden.org for all the details and complete an application form online.  The application deadline is July 31.

Join Golden Planning staff for an Open House to discuss new utility (water, wastewater, and drainage) rate structures on Wednesday, August 14, from 6 to 8 p.m in the Golden Community Center.

Stop by the Golden Utilities open house in the Golden Community Center on Wednesday, August 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. to learn more about your water, wastewater and stormwater utilities and potential changes ahead for how we charge for these services.

The open house will include stations that provide information about the water, wastewater and stormwater systems, water resources, rate study, water quality, and conservation. This is your chance to provide feedback on how Golden charges for utility services.

Your input is part of the rate study currently underway, to look at how customers are charged for water, sewer, and stormwater drainage services. A committee made up of experts and local residents worked for the past six months to evaluate the current system and ensure any changes are fair, equitable and tied to the demands that different types of customers place on the system.

The open house format is intended to be flexible to so please stop in at your convenience during the event!

Join the Public Works Department for the kick-off session of the Annual Public Works Citizen’s Academy. This Academy is a free 20-hour program exploring the work that goes into keeping Golden’s streets clear, the water flowing, and the city beautiful! Participants can expect equipment demonstrations, presentations by Public Works staff, and tours of City facilities including a field trip to Guanella reservoir. Celebrate women at the 5th annual Jeffco International Women’s Day on March 3 at Baldoria on the Water, 146 Van Gordon Street in Lakewood. The event is sponsored by SCL Health Lutheran and the City of Golden, with additional corporate sponshorships from Genesee Mountain Foundation, IX Power Clean Water, and corporate contributor, Coach Stacy’s Healthy U. Proceeds will benefit Porchlight Family Justice Center and the Jefferson County Library Foundation.

CU Regent Heidi Ganahl & founder of “Camp Bow Wow” will be the keynote speaker at this event during lunch. The winner of the “Unsung Heroine” Award will be announced as well, and Marjorie Sloan will be presented with the “Shattered Glass” Award.
