Every Friday and Saturday night from June 1 through August 31, 5 to 8 p.m., Golden’s downtown comes alive with activity for the whole family to enjoy.
Dozens of Golden businesses stay open until at least 8 p.m. and offer specials, in-store demonstrations, samples and more.
Live music on the street corners, free carriage rides, and merchant special activities bring the festivities outdoors onto the sidewalks and in stores and restaurants throughout the summer weekend evenings.
The Downtown Golden Merchant Partners (DGMP) is hosting the events, with support from the Downtown Development Authority, in appreciation of the Golden community.
Participating businesses will be marked by a gold balloon at their front doors. Golden Weekends will not take place during Buffalo Bill Days weekend nor on Super Cruise Saturdays.
Free parking during the evenings will make it easy for families and visitors to come enjoy Golden Weekends.
For more information, please visit Golden Weekends on Facebook.

The tradition continues for the 8th year in a row, as Golden Mayor Marjorie Sloan honors outstanding individuals and organizations for their exceptional contributions to Golden with the Mayor’s Awards for Excellence. The winners will be awarded at the Mayor’s Community Celebration Tuesday, October 30, 6:30 p.m. at the Mines Campus Student Center at 1620 Maple St. Golden.
This year at the Mayor’s Community Celebration, prepare to be inspired by a man who lived through the worst, and now works to encourage others to make an impact on the people and places around them. At the age of nine, John O’Leary suffered severe burns on 100 percent of his body. No one expected him to survive the first night, but he did. John endured months in a hospital bed, dozens of surgeries, the amputation of all of his fingers, and years of physical therapy. But for him it wasn’t the end, it was just the beginning of his journey. Some call John a survivor but he is much more than that. John O’Leary is a beacon of hope, and he has an important message to share with Golden.
The event is free and all are invited to attend!
On Veteran’s Day, Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, the City of Golden and Golden History Museum & Park will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I with a day of celebration, programs, and free admission. The Museum opens at 10 a.m. and ceremonies begin at 11 a.m.
The 1968 time capsule that has been buried in the sidewalk next to Golden’s Liberty Bell in front of City Hall for the past 50 years will be opened and its contents unveiled for the public to see at the Golden History Museum, 923 10th St.
The time capsule tradition began in 1918 when Golden residents buried the first one in honor of the end of WWI and asked that the people of 1968 open it. The next generation dutifully opened the capsule and buried another for us to celebrate and experience in 2018. In the same tradition, we will bury a time capsule with items representing our times for the people of 2068 to open.
Get out and get caching for this year’s International GIS Day! To celebrate all things mapping and how Geographic Information Systems keep Golden’s Public Works operating at peak efficiency, the GIS division is hiding ten Golden Tickets in ten geocaches around the city on November 14. You can find these hiding spots with a few coordinates, or your phone, and just a little bit of mapping know how.
This event is free and open to everyone. Participants will need to register with an email to Geocaching.com to see available caches (tickets will not be hidden in caches that require a premium subscription). Geocaching.com provides coordinates if you’d like to use your GPS, or the maps can easily be used with your phone. Keep in mind the caches will only be in Golden public parks, and tickets will stay hidden until they are found. Find a cache that doesn’t have a ticket? Don’t forget to log your visit on the log book in each cache!
