Free screening of “Dark Waters” @ Colorado School of Mines Bunker Auditorium

The Colorado School of Mines will host a free screening of the major motion picture, “Dark Waters” on January 28 at 7 p.m. in the Bunker Auditorium on the Colorado School of Mines campus. The public is welcome and tickets are not required.

This free screening is offered in advance of the keynote address and panel hosted on January 29, featuring Rob Bilott, the environmental attorney who inspired the film.

Mines presents: Future of Forever Chemicals in Colorado – Keynote & panel with Rob Bilott @ Colorado School of Mines Bunker Auditorium

Rob Bilott, the environmental attorney who inspired the movie “Dark Waters” and author of the book “Exposure: Poisoned Water, Corporate Greed, and One Lawyer’s Twenty-Year Battle against DuPont,” will speak at the Colorado School of Mines, Bunker Auditorium on January 29 at 7 p.m. and the public is invited to attend. The event is free, but tickets are required and available online.

A panel discussion and Q&A will follow immediately after with Chris Higgins, professor of civil and environmental engineering; Tracie White, Mines alumna and state remediation program manager; and other state and national PFAS experts. A poster session featuring Mines researchers and industry partners will kick off the evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Mines will screen “Dark Waters,” the movie inspired by Bilott, the day before on January 28 at 7 p.m. in Bunker Auditorium. The screening is also free and open to the public.

Golden Vigil and March for Black LivesGolden United, in partnership with other community members, is hosting a vigil and march to honor black lives lost, and to raise awareness of ongoing racial inequality. Join this peaceful gathering on Sunday, June 7 at 2 p.m. in Parfet Park to improve awareness of the unjust treatment of black Americans and discuss how we can together address this issue and similar challenges for all people of color. This event will also be broadcast via Facebook/Instagram live.

September 11 Movie Tickets Go “On Sale”

Free movie tickets for the September 11 Movies & Music in the Parking Lot drive-in event will go “on sale” Friday, September 4 at 8 a.m. The movie to be screened will be determined by popular vote at GuidingGolden.com.

Tickets for the August 14 event sold out within hours of becoming available, so mark your calendar and don’t miss your opportunity for a free night of movie and music fun, right from the comfort of your own vehicle.

Tickets are free, but we must limit the number of attendees due to space limitations.

Movies & Music in the Parking Lot

Join us for music and a drive-in movie in the old Heritage Square Lower Parking Lot at 18301 West Colfax Avenue on September 11. The movie to be screened will be announced on August 14.

While the event is free, space is limited so you’ll need to reserve your space. Tickets will be available at 8 a.m. on Friday, September 4. Look for the link here and at CityofGolden.net/Movies&Music.

Golden Town and Gown Book Club @ Virtual

Golden Town and Gown Book Club (TGBC) will discuss When Rivers Run Dry, by Fred Pearce in a Zoom meeting on April. Mr. Pearce is an entertaining, British writer, with an international perspective.

The topic of water supply is thought by some to rival climate change in importance to our country. The discussion leader will be Mines Professor of Hydrology Kamini Singha, who was the 2019 Mines Faculty Senate Distinguished Lecturer on the topic of water supply.

The meeting will begin with City Councilor Jim Dale giving a brief encomium to Bill McKee, one of  Colorado’s water experts, who was to lead the discussion of this book.  Bill passed away suddenly in February.

A Greener Golden Event @ Public Works & Planning Building

If you ordered a Garden In A Box kit, come out to pick up your kit between 12 and 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 15 during the Greener Golden Event at the Public Works and Planning Building (1445 10th St). Residents can also take advantage of FREE compost and vegetable seeds.

Golden Sustainability is pleased to also offer FREE electronics recycling for Golden residents at this year’s event! This drop-off event will last from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please bring a Colorado ID or driver’s license for verification of residency, be prepared to wear a mask, and social distance.
