Saturdays in December, authentic and historic downtown Golden becomes a festive holiday center with traditional decorations and fun family events. A transportation study of portions of C-470, US 6, and CO 93 between Littleton and Boulder is nearly complete. The Colorado Department of Transportation and the WestConnect Coalition of agencies have been conducting a Planning and Environmental Linkages study to evaluate and develop short-term and long-term transportation alternatives, and to identify proposed improvements along C-470, between Kipling Street and Interstate 70, and along the US 6/CO 93 corridor between Golden and Boulder.

The PEL study evaluated options to reduce congestion, improve operational performance and safety, and address future transportation needs. Transportation improvement alternatives were developed and screened using local agency and public stakeholder input.

Draft study recommendations and evaluation of these improvements will be presented at the study’s final round of public meetings this month. Recommendations vary by location, and include roadway laneage, intersection/interchange, trail, technology, and corridor management improvements.

Members of the public are invited to attend one of the three upcoming public meetings to review the draft recommendations. The meetings will all present the same information in open house format, with a brief presentation. Please attend the meeting most convenient for you to discuss the study with project team members and provide your feedback. Public input is an important component of this study, and CDOT will consider your comments as they refine the recommended improvements.

The final public meeting to see results of the Heritage Road engineering study, originally to take place on February 6 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Shelton Elementary Library, has been postponed. Please watch our Community Calendar for the new date when it has been decided. We will also announce the new date on Facebook.

The Golden Investment Forum Task Force will host a community Open House on March 14, 4:30 to 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers to kick off the community engagement focus of the project.

The Open House is expected to include information on the types of potential investment projects the Task Force is researching under their duties as assigned by Council.

The public is invited to an open house to offer input into the Mines Master Plan. The video presents the alternative development concepts that have emerged from our earlier master planning meetings. Anyone planning to come to the meeting is encouraged to watch the entire video in advance to prepare for discussion at the meeting.

At this session, the public is invited to comment on alternatives to the physical plan. The alternatives in the video were derived from campus and public input compiled during the previous months. This session is geared towards receiving input from the City of Golden and the public at large.

The Public Art Commission (PAC) invites the community to Foothills Art Center on Wednesday, July 18 at 6 p.m., to meet commission members, discuss current and future projects, and give input on the public art process and direction in Golden.

This event is free to the public and light refreshments will be provided.

VAN-DEMONIUM is your chance to drool over vans and draw inspiration for your own adventure rig! Adventure rigs come in many shapes and sizes—from Sprinters with all the bells and whistles to the family mini-van with a home done conversion. This event will have vans on vans, plus beer, live music, games, and raffles so there’s something for every member of the family.

The Colorado School of Mines will conduct the next and final Neighborhood Open House to present the draft of the Mines Master Plan. Please join us to see how the campus will evolve over the coming years.

Foothills Animal Shelter (FAS) hosts the third annual Toby’s Pet Parade & Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8.  The parade will go along Washington Avenue and end in Parfet Park, corner of 10^th Street & Washington Avenue. Hundreds of animal lovers and their dogs in costumes will walk in the parade and compete for prizes in categories like “Doggie Diva,” “Best Group,” and “Most Original.”

After the parade, enjoy a fair with a beer garden, food trucks, live music, dog flyball demonstrations, family friendly games, vendor booths and much more. For more information and to register, visit www.tobyspetparade.org.

All proceeds will go to care for the more than 9,200 animals who enter FAS each year, providing essential medical, behavioral and life-saving care to homeless pets.
