The first four Fridays of August will feature family-friendly movies and music for free in Parfet Park. For our final week, we’re heading to a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Come early to enjoy the music of La Pompe Jazz. Don’t forget your dancing shoes as these Denver musicians, fixtures of the local swing dance scene will have you up on your feet enjoying their jazz, blues and swing music. And keep your eyes peeled – storm troopers, and even Darth Vader himself have been known to make an appearance. This year we might even have a few members of the Resistance!
Each week, the bands begin performing at 7 p.m. and the featured movie will start rolling at dusk, generally around 8:30 p.m. The movies are shown on a giant inflatable screen under the stars.
Bring blankets or low-slung chairs, and make yourself comfortable! If you need to sit up high in a regular height chair, however, please be courteous of those sitting on the ground, and keep to the edges of the crowd. Come early and bring a picnic dinner, or enjoy food and drinks from local vendors. A number of vendors will be on site to offer tasty selections including tacos, ice cream and sodas. Then, of course, save room, because what’s a movie without hot, buttery popcorn?
Dogs are welcome, just keep them on a leash. And please leave your adult beverages at home – this is an alcohol- and tobacco-free event. Regular park rules apply.

Participating businesses will be marked by a gold balloon at their front doors. Golden Weekends will not take place during Buffalo Bill Days weekend nor on Super Cruise Saturdays.
Free parking during the evenings will make it easy for families and visitors to come enjoy Golden Weekends.

Whether riding the Giddyup event or not, this event in Lions Park offers a day of fun in the sun. Enjoy bluegrass, beers, and bike-time on Sunday, September 16 with dozens of great bike brands displaying their wares. This family-friendly event includes a kids’ bike course from Avid4Adventure, shenanigans from REI, food trucks, beer and whiskey.
For the second year, the Giddyup has teamed up with New Terrain Brewery who are making tasty brew just for this event, with proceeds from the sales supporting the Golden Giddyup’s trail efforts.
The Golden Civic Foundation Auction and Gala brings together Goldenites for a night of fun and to raise money for our town. This year, the event has moved to the Colorado School of Mines Lockridge Arena in order to accommodate the large number of guests. The sock-hop themed event begins at 5 p.m. and includes dinner, a cash bar, live and silent auctions, and live music by the Rockslide dance band. Get ready to rock around the clock!
The funds from the Gala and Auction support the Golden Civic Foundation’s Community Grant Program. Over the past 43 years, this program raised more than $5.3 million, all of which was reinvested back into the Golden community to support charitable organizations, public schools, museums, and cultural centers in the area.

The Railroad Halloween Town is a safe place to enjoy Trick or Treating. Catch a ride behind a historic Denver & Rio Grande Steam Locomotive in vintage passenger cars hosted by conductors and engineers in full costume.
Visit all of the special stops to fill your treat bags and tickle your funny bones including the “not so spooky” Haunted Railcar and the Olde Railroaders Silly Graveyard. Enjoy local food, kettle corn, shaved ice and even get your face painted. Finally, get a great picture of your costume as you pose in front of the Pumpkin Patch cart. The tradition continues for the 8th year in a row, as Golden Mayor Marjorie Sloan honors outstanding individuals and organizations for their exceptional contributions to Golden with the Mayor’s Awards for Excellence. The winners will be awarded at the Mayor’s Community Celebration Tuesday, October 30, 6:30 p.m. at the Mines Campus Student Center at 1620 Maple St. Golden.
This year at the Mayor’s Community Celebration, prepare to be inspired by a man who lived through the worst, and now works to encourage others to make an impact on the people and places around them. At the age of nine, John O’Leary suffered severe burns on 100 percent of his body. No one expected him to survive the first night, but he did. John endured months in a hospital bed, dozens of surgeries, the amputation of all of his fingers, and years of physical therapy. But for him it wasn’t the end, it was just the beginning of his journey. Some call John a survivor but he is much more than that. John O’Leary is a beacon of hope, and he has an important message to share with Golden.
The event is free and all are invited to attend!
