Community Housing Open House @ Golden Community Center
Jul 25 @ 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm
Community HousingDo you have . . .

  • Questions about what “affordable housing” means or why it’s important to our community?
  • Thoughts you’d like to share about your experience with renting or buying in Golden?
  • Ideas for how the City might assist its workforce, young families, seniors and other residents to remain in the community?

Then please join us for a community open house on Tuesday, July 25 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Golden Community Center, to discuss and provide input on housing policy and program options currently under consideration. And enjoy some pizza!

This will be an opportunity to review community trends related to housing attainability, refine and prioritize housing related policies for future inclusion in Golden’s Comprehensive Plan and consider some program options to help meet the housing needs of low, moderate and middle income Golden households.

Mayor’s Community Event 2017 @ CSM Green Center
Oct 3 @ 6:30 pm

The tradition continues, as Golden’s Mayor Marjorie Sloan hosts a fun event to honor outstanding individuals and organizations for their exceptional contributions to Golden. This will be the 7th year for the Mayor’s Community Celebration, which will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3 at the Green Center on the Colorado School of Mines campus.

Last year the City partnered with Mines for a truly impressive event, complete with the school’s marching band and singing groups, a special recognition from Congressman Ed Perlmutter, and much more. Because it was such a huge success, the City is again partnering with Mines, and this year we will celebrate entrepreneurship and innovation. Mayor Sloan wants to highlight the innovations that have come from Mines and our community which positively impact Golden businesses and residents, or humanity as a whole.

You won’t believe some of the amazing things happening in Golden! This will be the most fun and interactive Community Celebration yet, with demonstrations and displays for you to explore. The winners of this year’s Mayor’s Awards for Excellence will also be awarded at that time.

People from all walks of life are welcome and encouraged to attend.

2) Rebuilding America in 3 Easy Steps
“Net Zero” has become the latest buzzword for city planning, but what does it mean, really? Aurora former Director of Planning & Development Bob Watkins will explain how America is about to be rebuilt, again, and things we can do to insure a sustainable future for us all.

3) Colorado Education Network: The Promise of Colorado

4) The Oil Industry: What the Frack?
Carbon-based fuels are a vast improvement on their predecessors, but how do we move to improved energy conversion that will power the planet in a clean and more efficient manner? Conservationist and entrepreneur John R. (Grizz) Deal will give us a jump start on this important issue

5) Getting a Pulse on Healthcare
How does healthcare affect you? Is healthcare “infrastructure” or just a nice thing to have? Doctor Irene Aguilar will diagnose the issues.

All money collected will go to the JeffCo Action Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people on the pathway to self-sufficiency. With $3 you can provide funding for one meal!

Colorado Gives Day 2017
Dec 5 all-day

Colorado Gives Day 2017This statewide movement celebrates and encourages philanthropy in Colorado with a local focus. Celebrating the theme “Give where you live” Colorado Gives Day makes giving locally easy by allowing people to go to one website www.coloradogives.org where they can find local charitable organizations they care about all in one place. You can sort by cause or location to find the perfect charity that speaks to you. The actual day is December 5, 2017, but give early and get ahead of the curve! Or if you can’t give now, the site is up all year long, so give when you can.
