Activities for All Ages!

The City of Golden Recreation Division provides youth, adult, and senior recreation and leisure programs and services for all skill levels and abilities. The Golden Community Center is the primary location for indoor recreation including arts and crafts, fitness, dance, youth athletics, swimming, day camps, trips and tours, Front Porch active adult activities, and the state-licensed, 4 Star Qualistar rated, Golden Preschool.

Outdoor recreation programs and services offered by the Recreation Division include adult softball, basketball, kickball, and volleyball leagues and tournaments; tennis lessons and tennis teams; youth summer track and volleyball; youth soccer, baseball, flag football and lacrosse to name a few.

The Recreation Division actively participates in the Colorado Association for Recreational Athletics (CARA) and the Preschool Licensing and Youth Association (PLAY), as well as both sections of the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA) professional organization. Over 100 recreation programs are available to the residents of Golden, along with an estimated 12,000 non-residents served by the Accredited Golden Parks and Recreation Department.

The Golden Parks and Recreation Department offers a full slate of classes, activites and athletics for all age groups, from tots to older adults. Below is a brief overview of types of activities and classes available. Athletics

Baseball GlovesBatter, batter swing! Don’t just wait for a pick-up game to materialize in your neighborhood. Get off the couch, and join one of the many athletic leagues available for youth and adults organized by the Golden Parks & Recreation department

Youth athletic leagues include Volleyball, Track & Field, Tennis, Soccer, and Swimming. Adult athletic leagues include Softball, Kickball, and Tennis.

Tennis lessons are available for players of all ages four and up, and for all skill levels, spring through summer. Volleyball training and boot camps are available during the summer to grades 5 through 12.

Creative Arts

Pottery, drawing, sculpting — the Creative Arts program helps residents of all ages unleash their inner-Picasso with classes, camps, and art nights.

Dance Arts

Dance ArtsGinger Rogers and Fred Astair will have nothing on you! Tap, boogie and jive your way to good health with Parks & Recreation dance classes. Youth and Adult dance classes are available, including Ballet, Tap, Fusion Jazz, Hip Hop, Cheer/Dance Team Prep.

Our dance/vocal program starts in September each year and ends in May. Performances are in December and at the end of May or early June each year. Classes are continuous each season, but new students are always welcome anytime during the year. Students must dance for all months prior to the December (September through December) and June (January through May/June) shows in order to perform, or must be approved by the instructor. All classes are co-ed. Boys are always welcome!

Specialty Classes

Is your Spanish rusty? Always wanted to know how to tie your own flies? Interested in learning CPR and First Aid? The Golden Parks & Recreation Department offers a variety of classes seasonally for adults and youth. Other course offerings might include Hunter Education, Computer classes, Genealogy research, and much more. Swimming / Aquatics

SwimmingWhen the summer heat sizzles, it’s time to get wet! The City of Golden owns and operates two aquatics centers with both leisure and lap pools available.

The Community Center offers indoor pools that are open year around, even when summer is long gone. Group, private, and semi-private swim lessons are available.

The Splash at Fossil Trace Aquatics Park is an outdoor facility and operates from Memorial Day Weekend to Mid-August each year making it a popular destination for children trying to wring every last drop of fun out of their summer vacation.

Tykes

The Golden Community Center offers Childcare Center services for patrons of the Community Center year-round. We also provide a 5-Diamond Colorado Shines Quality Rating Preschool Program, which accepts children ages 3 to 5 during the school year.

The Childcare Center accepts children ages 6 months to 7 years for a maximum of 2 hours while the parent is working out or participating in a Community Center program. The Childcare Center is not a licensed day care facility, and parents must remain in the building during their child’s entire stay in the center.

During the school year, the Community Center offers a 5-Diamond Colorado Shines Quality Rating Preschool Program for children ages 3 to 5. The Preschool program requires registration and additional fees. You can find all of our information on the Recreation Online Registration site under “Preschool Program”.

Wellness & Fitness

Spin ClassFitness classes, free weights and weight machines, cardio machines, personal trainers, and a gymnasium make the Community Center an ideal place to start, and make a regular stop, on the road to fitness.

Classes offered throughout the year include yoga, weight training, aerobics, cycling, Pilates, boot camps, and creative variations on all of the above! Some classes are drop-in, but others must be registered for in advance, so be sure and check the Re·Create Activity Brochure or Recreation Online Registration for details.

In addition to regular classes available to guests of all ages, the Community Center offers classes and events specifically targeted to SilverSneakers Members.

Guests who wish to receive personalized attention and guidance while creating a fitness regimen may purchase personal training sessions. Both one-on-one and group options are available.

Youth & Teen Activities

Movies, music, robotics, workshops, day camps, adventure — your child won’t know the meaning of the word “bored”! The Golden Parks & Recreation Department offers activities and classes of all kinds for children and teens. Your child will have fun and make new friends while learning something new.
