The mission of Golden’s Public Works Department is to continue to be an innovator in providing effective proactive service to enhance Golden’s current and future quality of life.

Pothole FillingThis mission is achieved by several unique divisions all working together to deliver excellent customer service, and a high standard of safety to residents, visitors, and members of the business community. The department gives the community clean, safe water; fosters the beauty of our environment by maintaining our city’s infrastructure; completes a variety of paving, water, sewer and construction projects each year; and keeps our streets safe for passage.

Our primary goal is to maintain, protect and ensure the future of the City’s infrastructure while educating the public on available services, as well as supporting a wide variety of special projects and events.

Public Works Divisions

Building

Administers and enforces the adopted International Codes, National Electrical Code, and City ordinances to ensure that commercial and residential structures are built to standards that protect the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens and general public.

Engineering

Capital improvement projects, floodplain management, traffic, design and construction of infrastructure and planning review.

Environmental Services

Backflow Prevention/Cross Connection Control, Industrial Pretreatment, Pollution Prevention and the PAYT trash and recycling program.

Mapping/GIS

Data on infrastructure, zoning areas, parks and Open Space, trails, historic buildings and districts, snow plow and street sweeping routes and City boundaries.

Streets

Snow & ice control, surface repair and maintenance, sweeping, pavement marking, signage and special event support.

Water

Water plant operation, water supply, stormwater, water and sanitary line maintenance and delivery of fresh drinking water.

COG Mesa

 Golden was named after Thomas L. Golden,
a gold prospector who arrived in Jefferson County in 1858.
